I know exactly how you feel. School is great, but it is exhausting as well. When you get the chance, let me know how it's going.

We need to get together sometime. Dayton is not far from me. I only live in Western PA.

Take Care,

Marci

Ok guys, I found a minute to breath and thought I'd share about my first week!

I start school at 8 or 8:30 each morning, depending on the day. I am taking Nursing 100 (Foundations of Nursing), Anatomy and Physiology, Psychology and Nutrition. Starting the 4th week of class I will have clinicals every Tuesday. The first time I went to each class was very boring, basically just learning what will be expected out of us throughout the year. I do know that it'll be so hard but hopefully very rewarding.

This is for Missy120808. I'll go through each class, k?

First I had Foundations to Nursing I. This is being taught by 4 different instructors. One is for the lecture part of the class, one teaches math, one is the clinical instructor, and the last teacher heads up the on-campus labs. Each of these ladies are very outgoing and I can tell are going to make class so much fun.

I also had A&P. The instructor for this class has such a reputation for being difficult. So much so that the Nursing 100 instructors joked that his nickname is "Tinman" (because he doesn't have a heart!) but I found him to be really kind. He told us that he is hard on us because as future nurses we HAVE TO KNOW THIS STUFF, that every class we take in nursing will use things we learn in A&P, and that ultimately he is just trying to train us to be the best nurses we can be because that's what our future patients deserve. We have A&P 3 times a week and he also offers free tutoring for an hour on Friday afternoons. I'm a little nervous because 30% of the students that take this A&P fail it but I just know I have to put that much more effort into studying.

My nutrition teacher was a little off the wall but she really just seemed to be so excited to have us there. Besides teaching us nutrition, she seems genuinely interested in our personal health and is challenging us to become more active and eat more healthy foods. I only have nutrition once a week and I already have a test this coming week.

I am taking Psychology and Concepts of Nursing but unfortunately I don't really have a lot to say about these classes. Both teachers let us out a little early and we didn't cover enough of the actual class for me to tell what the class will be like yet. We will have a group project to do in Psychology this term; that should be interesting.

We have 3 terms in this program I'm in, each term is 15 weeks long. We must maintain at least a 78% in each class to be able to pass each term and continue to the next. We got 13 books already and I'm so glad I bought a rolling backpack! Our uniforms are kind of blah (white pants, white tops with our school logo and a green lab coat with the logo) but they're definitely tolerable.

I'm so glad I met a girl off of here that's in my class. She has helped make the transition from being a stay-at-home Mom to student a little easier. I love allnurses!

Marci - getting together sounds great! My husband and I expect to be traveling some on weekends this year to go racing so I'll let you know if we come near you!!

Sounds like you had a busy week. Welcome to being a nursing student. I always have such great intentions about coming home and writing about the days experiences for other allnurses members to read. However, when I get home, all I want to do is sit down and relax!

Keep us posted as to how your program is going. I think it helps many aspiring student nurses to decide if nursing school is right for them.

Marci

I got 29/30 on my first test (in Nursing 100 class). Now I have a nutrition test tomorrow and an A&P test on Friday but I gained a lot of confidence from doing well on that first test!

Congratulations! You did a great job!

I was so scared taking my first few tests. Once you know what to expect, it's not too bad anymore.

Study hard, our nutrition test was pretty tough. I'm sure you will do great, though.

I definitely had more anxiety of taking the test than the actual test material. The nutrition test was a little more difficult than I thought it would be. The teacher tried to give us our grades but the scantron machine broke so I have to wait a week for my score now. I'm really liking school though!
