For Fun - Things You Want to Buy Once You're a Nurse

Published

Ok, I know we should be frugal after we graduate and invest in retirement, pay off debt and student loans, etc. However, for a little fun, what kinds of things do you look forward to buying after you graduate and are working as a nurse?

For me: a Dyson vacuum cleaner ($500) and a set of NARS blushes ($200), the best blush on the planet. I've also been fixated on buying a Mini Cooper:

I suspect I'll buy the Dyson and NARS, but the Mini Cooper may just not be a good financial choice.

So what do you all want to buy?

I had to respond to VAMEDIC4 even though I have been an RN for going on 30 years. When I graduated in 1979, I was, let's see...24 and I wanted a new motorcycle, a 750cc Suzuki, but I had a problem. My Dad had to cosign the loan and would only sign for a 550cc bike, much less powerful, almost a beginner bike and NOT what I wanted. After he signed, I went back to the dealer, plunked down $300 left over from my financial aid and rode out with the 750. Get the bike if it pleases you, but do save for retirement. BTW, for the student contemplating a Dyson Vac--Consumer Guide recommends a much less expensive Hoover. Mine really sucks (sorry, couldn't resist).

Regards to you all.

For years, I wanted a Hummer2, but that's out of the question now. I want to buy a classic muscle car, and maybe a new Mustang. :yeah: More important, I would like to take care of my mom as she has been a great deal of support for me mentally and financially ever since I was laid off from a job that I worked at for over ten years. Just taking her shopping whenever she would like, and paying her way for a change will bring me joy. :wink2: I miss being able to do that. I would buy my brother a huge Snap-On tool box, and my bf a flat screen tv. Oh yeah, I need some jumper cables too. :p

As a personal treat to myself upon graduation I will probably indulge in a small tattoo in a discreet location.

As for the rest, I want a very fat savings account. Also my parents have been the most amazing, wild, eccentric people in the world who have had really rotten luck. I would love to help them flesh out the house they are remodeling, ( new kitchen, bookcases, roof, insulation, etc. ), and help them replace all the stuff lost in a devastating house fire.

If I were to go out and splurge with my first check, it would be to buy matching towels, tons of plain, comfy, socks, a new egg poacher, and probably some books. I love thrift stores so I would have to visit one or two. And get some work done on the old Dodge truck.

And then maybe I'll go find that guy I saw once and fell absolutely in love with and kidnap him. :heartbeat He won't be able to resist me in my new socks. :) If that doesn't work out then I'll have to settle for a Rocky Horror Picture Show Poster.

Good luck with that!! I spent 8 years in Seattle and while it is a wonderful place to live, it is also very humid.

Hmmm... I graduated last May, working full time since the first of this month, trying really hard to get my finances back on track and the only thing that I am grateful for is being able to finally take my Kiddo out to the movies & dinner once a month. Its going to be a while before we are able to have Sunday breakfast @ Denny's every weekend, but that is the next thing on our list!

thanks! haha, for some reason I always picture northwest humidity as more along the lines of picturesque british isles type fog and not this "I am breathing soup" business we get down here in the south.

It's just all in fun and wishful thinking.

Well, I guess it is at first, but after you have been there for a while and you get acclimated to the weather, it still feels humid. I am from Oklahoma and in mid August when it is like 100 degrees with 60-70% humidity there isn't even a puff of air to be found. When I first moved to WA I was like, what humidity? Because the heat factor is so much more bearable there. But alas, after some time there I had adapted to the Washitonian ways and was griping about the humidity too. I am sure it is considerably better than Alabama or Georgia or something there abouts.
