For All Current Excelsior Students

Published

I thought I would start a post for those of us working our way thru the program. I feel like I have hit a brick wall with studying. I was on a roll for the first 9 months of this year getting ready to start the program and I knocked out 2 of my Nursing Exams already. Currently trying to study for LS1 with testing on Oct 17. I still have Repro, Chronicity, LS2, LS3 left to go. I thought I would put this out there in order to help myself and others. I'm looking for an accountability partner. Someone that I can encourage and vice versa to keep each other motivated. Could be 1 person or a small group. I really want to finish up by January at the latest. If anyone is interested send me a PM. I'm on facebook also.

I would like to join in this, I most definetly need a group to be accountable to...i take my first exam this friday (Health Safety) 10-21-11 ...im nervous about it but i have faith to believe i can do this...im sooooo ready to be an Registerd Nurse and move on in my career that i can just taste it :hpygrp::hpygrp: LETS GET IT ONNNNNN! WOOOOHOOOO ....OPERATION RN 2012 IS A GO :rckn:

LS1 passed today. That just leaves Repro, Chronicity, LS2 & LS3. Planning on taking Chronicity next in about 2 weeks.

I would also like to join this group. I have taken Transitions B Health and Safety B. Studing for LS1 now. Nervous one what are you using to study? You are going thru your exams really quick.. I am using the RN bridge program study guide 101 and the practice exams and it is taken me at least a month per test. Congrats on LS1 exam Im so nervous about this test so much info..

For Health Safety and Transitions I used SG101 and the practice exams. For LS1 I used mainly the practice exams (70%) and Saunders NCLEX for the other 30%, but my grade on LS1 was a C and so was my grades on H&S and Transitions, both C's. I'm happy with C's. I have sort of steered away from SG101 at the moment and focus more on the practice exams and Saunders. Love my Saunders book, just wish I had an E-version for my iPad.

Specializes in SN, LTC, REHAB, HH.

I'm scheduled to take transitions on the 24th next monday. how many questions were actually on that exam? i cant wait to get this one outta the way so i can go full ahead with the others.

I think all of the nursing exams are now 130 questions (guessing 30 are unscored). I've taken Transitions, H&S and LS1 and all 3 were 130 questions.

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

The number of questions is listed in the exam content guides for each exam.

Hi! I recently joined the forum and work as an LVN.....Im looking into Excelsior....seems that everyone here on this thread loves the program, but Ive heard mixed reviews.....any and all advice would be great!!

Nervous1, I will gladly "join" your cult ;) I took my first exam on March 25th and by June 6th had seven exams completed with As and Bs. I FAILED LS3 and from there was no longer motivated to pick up any kind of study material. It has now been over four months and I recently got my motivation back. I have LS3, FCCA, and CPNE and I am done. It's hard for anyone I spoke with to understand how I could be so "close" and not be on fire about it. What they don't understand is the CPNE makes it so "FAR" for most, if not all of us! As I get closer to the reality of the CPNE I feel more like a "dead man walking" rather than someone getting closer to the finish line. I have always thought of my self as a "clinically sound" type nurse but the horror stories of people failing for forgetting simple things is very intimidating. I can't imagine ever forgetting to wash my hands because I have done it probably a million times in 18 years, but under pressure, who knows what you might forget.....God, just sitting here typing I need a xanax(and I don't even take Tylenol). Anyway, I want to take LS3 again before Halloween, FCCA by Christmas and the CPNE before Easter....let's keep each other on track!

Hello,

Please tell me of your study approach..did you use other recommended reading, etc?

Good luck to you!
