For those that couldn't afford Kaplan's review course... there's hope :-)

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello all,

I just recently passed my NCLEX, YAYYYYY!!!! God is SOOOO good! I had about 20 SATA, a few math calc, a few exhibits and a couple of drag and drops. I was nervous because I felt like I should've had more SATA based on what I read on here. My test stopped at 75 questions and I felt sick to my stomach. The drive home was the longest drive of my life! I went straight in the house and tried the PVT trick and got the good pop up, but honestly, I didn't feel completely happy until I saw the official result! I was so excited to find out that I can officially call myself an R.N.!!! This website was VERY imformative and it was great to know I wasn't alone in my worries. The main reason for this post is during my study time, I kept seeing posts on people taking the Kaplan review course and how the course can guarantee you will pass. Well, I could NOT afford the class after spending 550 to take the NCLEX. I started to get discouraged because I started to feel I HAD to take this course to pass. I studied for four hours a day for 3 weeks before my test date. I focused on the areas I struggled with in nursing school first then started doing a bunch of questions. Kaplan's book was GREAT on helping me figure out my weaknesses on answering questions and Saunders was GREAT on content. So if you are like me and have financial struggles, there is hope to still get good study material for less. So here is what I studied with:

Kaplan's 2012-2013 Strategies book

Saunders 5th edition (for review of content)

Allnurses study guide (good stuff!)

I was able to get through the Kaplan book twice and felt the Kaplan questions were very close to NCLEX. The Saunders questions were pretty easy but the break down of content was great for me. Good luck to those taking the exam in the future!!!

Now on to the job hunt :/

Hi QueenE6,

Congratulations to you!!!!! You did it!!! :-) I am so inspired by you. I am a foreign nurse and I only use Kaplan, Saunders and the allnurses study guide as well. And I was always wondering if I will be able to pass it by just using those three sources. Money is running low for me as well, so I canĀ“t afford an online review course. I hope I will pass on my first try!

Have a great day, celebrate!

Congrats QueenE6.!:yeah:

I just wanted to thank you for your post and I really mean THANK YOU. I always felt that not being able to review in Kaplan is a great lost for me. And having access to their qbank, which they say is harder than NCLEX, is a really great help to anyone who can afford it, which unfortunately I cannot. Now, because of your post, I finally got my Kaplan-bug out of my head. I can finally stop visiting their web site over and over again. Thanks again mate.! Have an awesome job hunting out there.:D

Thank you everybody! I am so glad I could help ease some stress because studying can be stressful enough. Good luck to all of you and I hope to hear your good news too!!!

I was just about to make a similar post.

Very few people in my class paid for a review and so far we are batting 100% in passing.

Honestly, its what I learned in nursing school that really helped on the exam.

I did some practice questions from Saunders Q&A and used the Saunders Comprehensive to review the content I was iffy about, also used the All Nurses study guide.

I'm sure the review is helpful to some, but no one should feel like they don't have the same shot as someone that did a review.

Specializes in Nephrology, Oncology.

Congratulations! I'm sure you're very excited and relieved!!
