Ours have clear gel with a little metal disc to pop and sticky tabs so they can be taped around even the smallest foot. Sorry, but I don't work until next week and I can't remember the name. Funny how you look at something all the time but don't really see it!
The brand is medichoice. I am told we used the purple kind in the past but changed to these.
The unit where I work has always used a kind of semi-stretchy gauze as their routine non-sterile 4X4's. These work great for several things regarding heelsticks. 1st, you can use the adhesive strip on the heelwarmers or not, but wrap it in place with the unfolded 4X4. Then when the heelstick is complete, use the gauze as a bandage to wrap around the heel. That avoids using band-aids or other adhesive things on their delicate skin, though they always look like they have an ankle cast on after labwork.

Our NICU uses the heel warmers from Childrens medical ventures (purple gel). I am wanting to know what others are using for heel sticks. These warmers are so large on some of our little babes.
Thanks for your help!
