Foot in the Door

So a little while ago I had posted about possibly getting a school nurse position, which ultimately I didn't get. It was pretty devastating :cry: but that shows me that I should be careful about being overconfident!:facepalm: Speaking with everyone involved, I know that I was the #1 choice, but they hired based on the fact that the other nurse the principal recommended (He has to recommend 2) had worked in the district for a year as a sub.

Since then, they've went out of their way to get me scheduled to volunteer in the district, as well as putting me on the substitute school nurse list. And the day I went in to fill out my paperwork, I got offered a long term position four days a week for an hour, yes, an HOUR a day at the end of the school day. Which I took. I think I had six people in administration come to meet me and thank me, and one person hugged me. lol. It was kind of hilarious how excited they all got.

They also said it puts me at the top of the list for a future f/t position :yes:

    School nurse positions are hard to get. She lost this job to someone who had experience, so she needs experience. The way it really reads is "we want you to work for us, but the bureaucracy says you need experience, so we will make that happen". Pretty awesome of them, if you ask me. That is definitely something to give you a good feeling about.

    Thank you! I am going to be patient, I know there are a few nurses retiring in the next year or so...so there is opportunity coming!

    Thank you! Yesterday was my first day and I can already tell I will enjoy this position. Granted, I will probably see the office staff more than anyone, but it is nice to acclimate myself!

    I also signed up for two conference dates for our state nursing school organization, which I think will be great. At this point, I feel like I am doing EVERYTHING I can do. :yes: At least, short of bribery. :roflmao:

    Not at all! This is a good district and it's very competitive. But I can see how you might assume that.

    Yes, this is how I am taking it because this is almost EXACTLY what I have been told by several people in the district. When I didn't get the position, the asst. super who called to tell me repeatedly said that he didn't want me discouraged to apply again, in fact, he strongly suggested that I do. As did our head nurse.

    Several nurses in the district now have welcomed me to their buildings so that I can get volunteer experience, as well. Which is what a lot of them had to do before they were hired.
