it's hard when it seems like there are so many hoops to go thru. but you must be focused on getting those A's, otherwise there will be a ton of nurses in front of you with all A's. do you work in the medical setting already? that can really keep you interested, and hopeful for the future! even volunteering would be awesome. sometimes taking a break or only taking one class instead of a ton at a time...sometimes you get burned out on classes classes classes. and then it can give you more time working in a possibly crappy job which is always great motivation to keep going!!!
good luck!

I definitely go through phases. I feel completely focused for a couple of weeks and then the next week I just don't care. The best way for me to defeat that unfocused feeling is to keep my end goal in mind. If I screw it up now I'm not helping myself reach that goal. Focus isn't always about desire; you might not think something is interesting at all. Focus is really about determination and discipline. If I could ever just learn that once and for all life might be a little easier.
But, really, if you don't want it bad enough you should find something else to do with your time. I tell myself that on nearly a daily basis throughout the semester. If I'm not willing to put in the effort then I should step down and let someone else who is determined take my place.
Oh trust me I want it , it's just hard to stay focused.
I guess because I am just in the boring part is why but I am gonna do my best.

It is difficult to stay focused sometimes, esp if you are in a pre-req that is not exciting to you or you feel won't pertain to nursing down the road. Try having a dedicated study area and/or time. Give yourself breaks. Mix things up by learning by your books, flash cards (if applicable), online, etc. Remember each class only lasts a few months and it's on to something new!

I find myself having the same problem! Even though the material starts out as interesting, after looking at for weeks on end I start to lose my mind a little. I start finding excuses for doing other things rather then studying That ended up really biting me in the butt this last semester. I have maintained a 4.0 this entire time and I just got my first B in a class. Oops. As my husband always tells me...my focus needs focus.

Here is what I do to stay focused (and I am psychotically laser focuses on getting into nursing school)
1. I print out motivating stuff from AN.com and save it to a word doc and put it in my binder for school
2. I google search for cool images of nursing school: the logo of my top choice nursing school, scrubs, cartoon pics of nurses that kind of look like me. I add these to a word doc. this is in my binder for school.
3. I wrote a business plan for getting into nursing school: ie list the classes I need, the classes I've taken, the grades I need, ind of like a checklist. I look at this at least once a semester.
4. I wrote down the reasons why I want to be a nurse and printed this.
5. I keep a blog about nursing..Pre Nursing Student. It helps me and hopefully motivates others. It is my therapy.
Everything I print has a cute font, pink colors and is really attractive.
I've been on this path since Jan 2010 and will probably apply to nursing school this year. It's cool to have all of these written docs to look back on.
Thanks vintagemother, those are some great ideas, I just might try it..I just need focus to hit me hard lol
