Hello All,I've been working for two years now as a pediatric ER nurse and have recently been researching to advance my career as a FNP. I have spoken to a few coworkers who are currently enrolled in the PNP program at Florida International University and they say most of it is online. I am a little hesitant of this as I work better in a classroom setting and prefer the hands on approach. I heard the University of Miami might be more fitting for me because of this. I just want to get the most out of my education. My question is, is it worth it? The FNP program at UM is around $ 36,000 vs FIU's which is approximately $18,000. I don't know much about Barry's FNP program but if any of you can give me your input or any current or past Miami FNP students/ grads can give your opinions, I would very much appreciate it!!Thanks!

Stacylee, is there anyway I can speak to you more in depth about the program? e-mail, text, skype, ANYTHING. Have so much more to ask and would like to speak to you if that's ok.

Hey Stacylee, I am also a new grad finishing my BSN in May. I was thinking about applying to UM FNP spring 2015 part time though so I can work. Is their any way to contact you via email etc to get more info it would help a lot to see if I am making the right decision!

Did you receive any feedback about UM's part time program ? If I'm accepted, I will love to start Spring 2015 !

Does the part time FNP program offer morning class time ?

I'm applying for UM's part time program for spring 2015. How was the interview process ? Have you decided on Barry or UM ?

Hi- I just got into their full time program. The interview was quite straight forward and seemed to just be a verification of your application. There weren't very many questions- Why FNP? Why UM? How do you view the future of the profession? How do you deal with different cultures? It was all pretty straight forward. Just be honest and go in with a positive attitude.

I'm trying to decide between FIU and UMs FNP program. Can anybody offer any insight?! Thank you!!

I was recently interviewed for the 2015 part time cohort. Awaiting a decision, perhaps we are on the same group . Let me know how did it go . Interview was straightforward , not sure about my results. :(

I am just writing to see if you might be able to help at all with any advice? Thanks so so so much for any help it is greatly appreciated!

Have you heard anything yet ? Approximately how long after you sent in your application did they call to inform you of an interview ? I submitted my paperwork 2 weeks ago & I'm waiting for a response.

I still can't believe that schools like Barry can get away with not setting up preceptors for you. You pay them good $$$, they should set everything up for you. It drives me nuts to think about schools that don't provide this service for students. Medical schools wouldn't dream of not providing clinical's to it's students, why should NP schools be any different? I wish people would boycott these schools and shut down their programs.

Great discussion!
