Okay, so recently I have found out that I did not pass my last semester due to the math. I was needing a 90% and found out I was receiving an 87%for math. My test average was 84%!!The bad thing is that I would have graduated Dec 13, just 3 weeks shy, I am sooo frustrated but trying not to show it. After receiving the news from my teacher I left school and quickly got online to find out about other nursing schools in the area. 1 week later I was accepted at Brown Mackie college in Findlay Ohio. I start Dec 1 and will hopefully be done Jan 2010. I am beyond nervous again!! I am hearing that you need an 80% on all tests to go on to the next month and as well, you are needing a 90% on the math. I am scared that the material is still going to be very difficult and severely stressful. I am seriously trying to stay positive about the whole situation, can someone please give me words of encouragement or has this happened to you, or am I the only LOSER out here that has done this???? Somebody please shed some light!!!:nuke::nuke::nuke:

I'm just finishing my first semester so while I haven't had the same experience I know others that have not passed classes and had to start over. If this is your dream, keeping pushing on, you'll make it. Perseverence is very important. I'm sure starting over can be tough and scary but learn from your last experience and use it to drive you forward. Create a plan of action of all the things you are going to do to stay on top of your studies. Find the person in the class that is typically the straight A student and become their best friend. Learn from their study habits, study with them, join productive study groups, and spend every extra moment studying like crazy. You'll do great. Just believe in yourself, take one day at a time, and work as hard as you can. Picture yourself with your cap and gown on and your passing NCLEX scores being mailed to you. Good Luck!

Good luck, Im glad you decided to go for it right away instead of feeling sorry for yourself. Hopefully you will be ahead of the game, and everything will feel like a review, instead of hearing it for the first time. Im confident you will do well, keep us up to date with your progress!

Many students fail math, it is very important. As an instructor who no math wiz but passed nursing math without any problems, I find it frustrating to reach a student like you.
Try to find a good math teacher, no matter what program you go to you need a strong math foundation.
So close and so near the holidays.

woah... that last one was harsh!!!
i myself have a really hard time with math... and yet i get all a's in nursing... very strange i know. some people just don't get math and it is just a curse we have been born with!! my advice to you is to ask your professor or SI if it would be possible for them to meet with you once a week for you to ask questions about the stuff you covered, or have them give you extra problems to work thorugh. what i found that has helped is just the tried and true doing it over and over again... i even found my own way to do it that works better for me than i have ever learned! good luck.. from a fellow non-mather!!
ps yes math is important but a good nurse is made, not born.
You know what...that was harsh and unnecessary.
I hope I come across perfectly clear, everyone is NOT the same. Thank goodness because I wouldnt know what to do with myself if you and I were the same.
Some people are better in math than others, and some people are better at being PEOPLE. Im glad nursing math is your strong suit. Period.
Happy holidays, I find it frustrating youre a teacher
frustrating?...Thanks anyways!
You dont by any chance teach at the school I went to do you? If you find it frustrating to teach a troubled student then why are you teaching...just a thought. But thanks for the input!!

Some people are better at math, and some people are better at writing and expressing themselves coherently.

I'm sorry you had this happen to you. I think you did a really good thing going right out and finding another program.
In our program, we use a book called "Calculate with Confidence". If you do follow the steps and do the exercises, I'll bet you will catch on. I am not a math person either and this really helped me. We have to pass all of our math exams with 100%, so I spent LOTS of time following the steps and doing the exercises!
Good luck to you.

Hang in there! I had to pass my math exams with a 90%. I would practice with at least 10 math problems everyday, even after I passed my math exams, just to make sure I don't lose it. Study hard and good luck! You will make it!! :wink2:
