Ok - who are you, what do you do, where abouts in Florida do you live (or if you are not in Floirda, what part of Florida do you want to move too), what is your clinical area, you status (CNA, LPN, RN, Student, Whatever) and anything else you might want to add.
Some of you already know me, I lived in Florida for a little over 20 years. An RN, I worked and lived in Sarasota. Went to nursing school at Manatee Community College and also University of South Florida at Sarasota. Great place .... love the beaches and the area is truly a wonderful place. I generally work surgical recovery and while in Florida, I worked in post open heart step down and also worked as a nurse manager.
I am a single dad raising three children (all are now teenagers - whew is this rough!). They are really great kids and I am a very luck father to have them.
Next ...... :chuckle

Hi Darlene, my name is Rob. I spent three weeks in the burn ICU unit at Tampa General in October of 2005. The doctors and nurses there are the absolute best in my opinion. The ones I remember the best are Mary, Sylvia, and Miguel. Also Dr. Aponte was the nicest doctor I was in contact with. He always kept my wife up to date on my progress. You are in a great hospital.

Hello RNPATL and other posters,
Brenda (RN) here, from Tampa and Tampa General (CVSICU). I often think about NC and the beautiful mountains - have family in GA and TN and get up that way a few times a year. Last trip to NC was for whitewater kayaking on the Nantahalia (Wow!) Loving this beautiful April weather here on the Gulf Coast! To the students - we're glad you're coming onboard!
Hi! I am currently a surgery manager in Indy looking to relocate to Sarasota. My passion has always (12 years) been in surgery as I would prefer to stay in this speciality. I have no idea about the healthcare system in this area or the better of choices for employment. Any information provided would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch...
Hi IndyRN,
In Sarasota, I believe there are only two hospitals: Sarasota Memorial is city-owned, pretty large, with a good heart program. I've heard "it's a rough place to work," but that was years ago, and I've never worked there so I don't know. When I visited people in that hospital, however, I was impressed with how clean and upscale it is - Sarasota is full of retirees with money and it shows. The other hospital is Doctors, which is a new building out in East Sarasota. It's owned by HCA, (also known as Columbia). They're private and after working at a couple of HCA faciliites, I won't do it again - the only focus seems to be the almighty dollar. Up the road in Bradenton is Manatee Memorial, where I worked for a few years. Used to be County, now private. Also Blake is in Bradenton and its an HCA facility - been there, done that, won't do it again. South of Sarasota is the town of Venice - there is a hospital there, Bon Secours (?), and I think it's also HCA and little. So if you like surgery, look to Sarasota - or else come to Tampa General - we're over 800 beds, and university-affiliated. Whew, that's a lot! Hope you find at least some of this information useful, Kayaknurse.
Kayaknurse,
Thank you for the useful information, very much appreciated!! As you might imagine it is difficult not even having a clue as where to begin the search in hopes of not ending up in a place you are not happy. My first choice was in fact Tampa General as I have family closer to that area and have done extensive research on the facility. However, my friend is moving with me and is accepting a job at a plant in a small town called Arcadia. I was trying to find a hospital 50 miles or less within this plant. I know the almighty dollar is always an issue here in the midwest as well grr... I am not familar with HCA? Are these hospitals union? We do not have union facilities here yet. We have great facilities that pay very well here and treat the employees very fair. However, Indianapolis weather is much to be desired... Indy
