I want to say thank you to all who are taking the time to read this thread and help me out. I will be graduating from nursing school in September, we live in Indiana and are wanting to move to Tampa area next June. My question to all tampa nurses how is the job market for new grade nurses and also what is the pay rate in tampa Florida for new nurses? Also if anyone can recommend some areas that are nice for raising children as I have kids and a husband. I would appreciate any and all advice from everyone! Thank you in advance for taking the time to read and helping me out!

I'm a new grad with a BSN who was recently hired in the Tampa area. I think you're on target with your $25-30 per hour estimate, with the base being around $25 and closer to $30 with differentials :).

Thank you NYtoflr, do you think the start rate is pretty much the same across in Florida? I was looking around also at Viera Florida, I really like the neighborhoods there for the kids, it seems really quiet. Also I will have a ASN in nursing I will be enrolling into an MSN program to bridge of bachelor degree I would like to be an OB NP

Specializes in Neuro ICU.

I graduated in December and started a residency this past January at Bayfront Health SP. Payis $26 before differentials. I also spoke with recruiters from LRMC, FH Celebration and TGH; LRMC was around $24 but had very generous differentials, the others were closer to $22 with unknown differentials.

I am still a student, so I really can't speak to the job market. However, we moved to FL from NY 11 years ago and I love it here! We are outside of Tampa and find it to be very family friendly. (We have 5 children.) We are an hour from Disney and about 45 minutes from the beach. It's a great place to raise a family. Personally, I wouldn't want to live in Orlando. The traffic is insane as it is full of tourists year round. We love our visits, but are happy to return to our suburbs too! Best of luck to you!

What's an OB np?

Nurse practitioner for obstetrics gynecology

I live in South Florida and my husband and I have spent months researching areas in the Tampa area to move to. We have young children and wanted better housing and schools. We spent a lot of time in Wesley Chapel which is a suburb just outside of Tampa. There is a mall and lots of of new developments for affordable housing. We also found citrus park , town and country to be good but more older homes, Westchase was nice but a bit expensive. These are all just right outside of Tampa. Our favorite place was Sarasota, Lakewood ranch but the commute into Tampa would be too far of a drive. Lakewood ranch isn't too far from the beach, but there are a lot of new communities with good schools. I think the best thing to do is find some affordable communities with good schools then stay in that area, drive the neighborhood,go to the parks in that area and talk to locals. Thats what we did and how we where able to narrow down what areas we liked the best. Unfortunately my husband wasn't able to get a job in Tampa so we have been unable to move to the area :(

There are lots of good areas on the east coast of Fl to like Melbourne, space coast area, Sturat and Jupiter that are great too. Stay away for South Florida, its expensive and the school system is not the best.

Good Luck!

I currently work in Tampa and the base pay is $23-25. I have a few friends who work in Orlando and their base pay is $21-24/hr.

Currently Working for Baycare Health system, they have over 11 hospitals in the Tampa Bay area. They start new grads at $24.72 Base. $5.00 more for nights, $1.00 more for weekends. I love working for this company, great benefits and they treat there employees pretty well. We get a bonus every April and we get a yearly increase every august :-)

FYI, you can also check out the Brandon/Riverview area for suburbs outside of Tampa, very family friendly. Good Luck.

Do any new grad programs offer health insurance

Do any new grad programs offer health insurance

??? I would imagine since you would be an employee of the hospital, new grad or not, if you're full-time you would qualify for their insurance...
