States that have reciprocity with Fl. RN license

Are any of you familiar with what states accept Florida RN license? I'm graduating this summer and I may have an opportunity in South Carolina or Georgia. Just curious if I will have to apply for additional license in one of these states.

As far as I know, Florida is not a compact state, therefore you will have to get a license for the other states that you wish to work in.

Florida is not a compact state. If you will have your original license in Florida, you will need to request licensure via endorsement from other state boards of nursing. Compact States shown here. Although South Carolina is a compact state, Georgia is not, so you would need to obtain a separate license for GA, while you could work in other compact states with an SC license. Clear as mud?

Thanks all for your responses. Geez, I think they ought to offer a course on how to figure out where to get a license, how to get endorsement. I think I'd rather take calculus! LOL

Well I'm fairly new to this site and I want to thank everyone for all the great information. I find myself spending hours here, but I'm learning some great stuff!

I'm certainly not criticizing you, personally, at all, but every time I see one of these threads I find myself wondering, when did nursing programs stop teaching this basic, "nuts & bolts" stuff about nursing?? How can we graduate students who don't know the most basic, necessary stuff about how licensure works? I see this as (yet another) failing of the prevailing model of nursing education. :sniff:

I agree with you. I've asked if there are any future course content in my last remaining semesters covering licensing, to which I received a "No".

Ever grateful a site such of this exists where I can seek guidance from others working in the field.

Our final nursing course covered all about licensure, licensure compacts (which was just in the beginning stages then), endorsement and reciprocity, etc. Do they seriously not teach this stuff anymore?

Well, either many programs aren't teaching it, or many students don't pay attention -- look at how many of this type of thread there are here ... (Again, I'm not criticizing the individual posters who are asking because they sincerely don't know -- to me, it's a sx of a larger problem.)

They don't teach this in NS anymore. At least not where I went. They didn't tell us we had to apply to Pearson and the Florida Board of Nursing. I didn't even know some states were compact or not, etc. I learned all this thanks to a previous nursing student and this website. My school at least left us in the dark. And I know it wasn't just me. All my classmates where on the same boat. I remember that last month us sitting at clinicals and saying now what? That is when an RN from the floor that had just graduated walked in and we asked her what we needed to do. Sad. Its so sad.
