Florida LPN school?

Just curious. I want to start LPN school but so far the only one in Orlando is Orlando Tech in Downtown. Does any one know of any other LPN schools that are only 1 year to 18 months?

seminole community college in Sanford offers the LPN program...not that far from Orlando either.

just wanted to chime in that Orlando tech is a a good program and students who graduate from there have a good reputation in the community bc ppl know its tough. If you can look past the annoying GED kids on campus, it will be fine.

That's one thing I am afraid of. I really want to go to nursing school but I will have to work full time days in the process. I fear that I may not be able to handle it. I am also afraid that it's going to be too hard. I didn't do great in high school. I didn't do horrible but like in biology and things like that I made C's. I couldn't and can't do math so I made D's and such in math. Do you think I am still able to pull it off? I am also worried because Orlando Tech said I have to take the TABE test and the NET. I am worried that I am not going to be able to pass those because I haven't been in school since 2003.

I slacked off in high school and Im horrible at math, but managed to graduate with the highest gpa in my LPN program. You can do it, trust me! You just have to be ready and dedicated. Personally, I was tired of struggling financially and getting my LPN provided me with the opportunity to be self sufficient for the first time in my life. Im starting the LPN to RN bridge in January at Valencia, and check this out.....its ONLINE (except clinicals and midterms/finals)! If you take the first step to get ur LPN and u decide u want to bridge to RN, it is so doable now.

What I did before I took the TABE was study a GED math workbook to brush up on my math. I wasnt worried about the reading part bc I tend to do well in that area by nature. There is a book called "The NET study guide" you should use to study for the net. the first time I took the net I barely passed but the second time after studying that guide I scored very high. Good luck to you, dont be afraid to take these first steps. Once you do, you wont regret it. 2003 isnt that long ago! Go for it! Once u get the testing out of the way, all you have to do is wait to get in the next available class. BTW, if u need help paying for the program they have great assistance but u have to ask. It can go by your current income( I cut back to working part time when school started so my income went down a lot). Basically I got a need based scholarship that paid for the whole program. Then Central Florida Workforce paid for a NCLEX review class, my NCLEX exam, and my IV certification. Explore these resources, they helped me tremendously.

Thank you so much! Also, I find that I am a little forgetful. I am a medical receptionist right now and I seem to forget to put papers in the charts and little petty things like that quite a bit. I am trying to get better. Were you ever worried that you would forget about something for a patient and that you would hurt them by doing so? I guess just the little things like that are making me doubt myself because I don't want to ever put a patient's life in danger by forgetting to do something.

Also, about the LPN to RN bridge. I have NO pre reqs. Do they require them?

I graduated from SCTI in 2006, facility is older & so are labs & equipment.

Clinicals at Sarasota Memorial, Venice Regional ( a drive!).

They are tough on expecting excellence- dropouts & cut students often go to Manatee Tech.

Females had to wear a housekeeper's vest type uniform, reminded me of what the cafeteria ladies wore in high school!

Manatee Tech (Manatee County's tech school) is where I would have gone if I knew they existed at the time- new facility, new equipment, friendlier staff, plus the female uniforms are not so dorky.

Clinicals at Blake Medical (where I work), Manatee Memorial.

I work with mainly MTI graduates at Blake & they are certainly as qualified as I am.

Sarasota & Bradenton are expensive West gulf coast towns to buy a house.

Sarasota is upscale (think the Ritz-Carlton), Bradenton more working middle class (Applebee's, Chili's).

The beaches in the area are very pretty, Tampa & St. Pete 30-45 minutes away depending on where you live from in Sarasota & Bradenton.

Im seriously sitting here laughing bc YES I am the same way (a little absent minded at times) and YES I worry that when I go work in a hospital as an RN that Ill forget to do things, etc. Im sure we will both be fine bc we just have to make a conscious effort to pay extra attention....even if that means writing yourself notes (that works well for me). You have to get down a system to follow so there is little to no room for error. Many nurses use what is called a "brainsheet" which helps them keep track of everything they have to do and remember for their patients.

As far as prereq's...yes they require a handful of them, but I suggest getting as many as u can out of the way before you start LPN school. Then u may already have them done or only have one or two left to take when u graduate. here is a link to the pre reqs and program info:

Hi Mindy!:monkeydance: I'm Renee and i was in the LPN program at TECO (Technical Educational Center of Osceola). It's in Kissimmee and about 15-20 mins from Orlando depending on traffic. All in all, it's not a bad program, but just like with any other program, it has it's ups and downs. I was accepted for August 2005 and was set to graduate June 2006. I didn't make it along with 12-13 other students! :nono: I am not going to sugar coat it for you, the program is hard, but achievable! I was placed out the program in the middle part of January and that was because my average for Med Surg II was a 76.4 and I needed a 77, therefore disqualifying me from taking the final and giving me a ticket out the program. I was soooo mad at myself, because I allowed myself to slip due to work and finance, and I was taking my last few classes towards my AA:no: . I was only working 20 hours a week and tutoring and that was too much for me! Everyone is different though, because some ppl worked full time but you could tell that it was effecting them and they would fall asleep in class, but they made it!. Most people quit their jobs. Everything happens for a reason though, because i was stressed out and always cramming, which does not work! I'm now in my last semester at Valencia (AA degree) and will be transferring to a university in either May or August of 2007 for my Bachelor's. It worked out better this way for me. TECO is a good program though, but the only thing negative about it in my opinion is the fact that if you fail a class, do not have a 77% average on each test and final, or do not pass a # of tests, you are put out the program and not given a second chance. It kinda keeps you on your toes though. The positive aspect is that you make friends for life, become a great nurse and learn alot of hands on experience. The clinicals are great and you can really see how you begin to transform from a "student nurse" to a "Nurse" and it's a great feeling. Don't worry about the NET. I think it's easier than the TABE. If you do really good on the TABE, you will also on the NET. The TABE I had to take twice because they take you alittle further back to your middle/high school days math, so I had to brush up on my decimals, geometry and fractions! I got a 12.0 after I got the math study guide they offer. All in all, the school is worth checkin out and I would recommend it. I don't believe you would be charged out of state tuition, since it's a tech school. Hope I was of some help and you can do this girl! do not give up and believe and trust in yourself. you're more capable than you think! email me if you want more info or have any other questions!! this is OT, but Ive been looking at houses in Kissimmee and they are considerably less expensive than in Orlando. Would the drive back and forth be terrible? How are the neighborhoods? Im seeing nice newer two story homes for the same price as small one story homes here.....I also notice a lot of lease with option to buy in kissimmee. How do you rate the area in general? Ill have to take a drive up there and check it out one day.

Hey, the drive is nothing!!! Especially in the morning. I actually car pooled with another girl in the program to save gas, but we just would hop on the turnpike and go straight there! I like Kissimmee because it's not as crowded as Orlando, but still has opportunity and different things to do and is smaller. I would look into. There is Osceola Regional Hospital which is the biggest there I believe and also Florida Hospital which is tiny. Check it out!
