Does anyone know how long it takes to get a Florida nursing license???
WOW, I may move to FL and I was wondering if I could apply for the licence while in my home state and get the FL liscence and still have my licence in my home state? I am asking bc I want to stay and work where I am until i know for sure my FL liscence is set bc I will be supporting our family while my husband builds our house in FL. I am a student now and have never done any of this ever so this is why I am asking. I need ot be sure I have the liscence in FL beofre we move and then we will sell our house so how long is the FL liscence good for once you get it and also how long can I keep my current liscence in the state I am in while my house is on the market?
Apply for your Florida license as soon as you know that you are moving to Florida. Many people of my acquaintance have spent 6-12 monthes trying to get a FL license. They are good for two years.
You should be able to keep your original state license as long as you want, provided that you continue to fulfill that state's requirements. You can be licensed in more than one state at a time. As a traveler, I have 5 current state licenses.
I was licensed in Indiana in Oct. of 2003. My husband and are going to be in Fl. for 6 mos. out of the year. I recieved a packet with an application and fingerprint card about a week ago. Please tell me if I need to work in my home state for 2 years or have I miss read the info completely. I am so confused. I have done the fingerprint thing. Now what? Just fill out app. and send it? Or do I need to contact the school I attended and the state board and Pearsons or what?

OIK good. That way I can apply as soon as I know if we wil be moving and then when I get it we can then put this house up for sale and I can still work here and when I sell the house and stuff we can just move and I will have my licence ofr FL ready and waiting for me. my sister applied for her license while still working in Indiana. Had I known it would take so long I would have applied months ago. I want to go to work. I do not know if you have to have worked in another state for any period of time before applying in florida.
I do know you can start the process on the internet. go to florida mqa and follow the directions.

It took me about 6 mos. to get my Florida license. I started to apply when I found out that it would take awhile. I already have my Michigan license so all
I needed was an endorsement. They also required me to do some specific
CEU's and I needed my fingerprints. I went to the Sheriff's office to get these. Now I am moving to Florida at the end of the month and will be working in Home Care. :)

Could you please explain the term "endorsement"? I keep running into this thing that states I need to work for 2 out of the last 3 yrs. in the state I am licensed in. Is this statement true? I went to school with the purpose of working in Fl. when my husband retired. How long have you had your Michigan license? I have the application and the fingerprint card ready to go. I was licensed in Oct of 2003. Thanks for info.

Sunny -
Endorsement means that the state you are currently licensed in gives their approval for you to be licensed in another state. I believe you do have to work in the state for a period of time. It may vary state by state.

Hi Sunny,
I received my endorsement paperwork when I applied for my Florida license. I am already licensed as an RN in michigan. Endorsement is for nurses already licensed in another state. It is paperwork and sending money...somewhere in the neighborhood of $290. in my case. It took about 6 months for them to process the paperwork once they had it.....worth the wait though.....I will start my new Home Care job in June. Good luck in your venture... :)

I just applied for my FL license by endorsement. I have plenty of CEUs but I am wondering if there is a restriction on how many must be done in attendance at a course/seminar vs how many may be done online? I am also licensed in AL and they require 12 hours minimum by course/seminar and only allow 12 hours of online CEUs.

We(meaning Fl) have a great state nursing department-they are providing for many people. The requirements are specific here and it is always best to call them in person. Do you have the number? If you need it I can get it for you but always get something this important from the "horses mouth"
