I have been asked by my employer to self report to the IPN. I have been told these are non-drug related issued I have had two drug screens recently One a patient accused me (falsely) of not giving him his narcotic medicine. The other I worked an extra shift and nodded off while charting There were also some patient complaints - had to wait too long for meds etc Both drug screens came back negative Anybody know what I should expect when I call to "self report"?

What are you self reporting if your drug screens are negative? What is there to report?
Well lol that was my question as well Apparenly IPN also evals and treats for mental and physical issues. Due to the fact that I dosed off at work, had a previous drug screen (negative) and some patient complaints they want me to be evaluated for underlying issues
I do have some stress or occasional depression like everyone else but that didnt come into play in these situations. I didnt realize how tired I was (it was 2hrs before end of 12 hr shift )
They are saying that falling asleep in the middle of the day is suspicious, which I get. I actually voluntered to take the drug screen

I don't know if I would self report if you don't know what you are reporting for. I would find a lawyer first and see what you are legally forced to do. I wouldn't do anything until then. That is my .
I was terminated and can be rehired once I talk to the IPN. Job states that the IPN will notify then if I dont call the IPN So, I go see them, and they want me to sign a contract and I refused then what happens? I am not sure if this situation is reportable to the BON or not
Oh and the other conplaint was that my charting was behind

Seriously? get a healthcare lawyer. No way should you have to sign a contract with negative screens. Who couldn't nod off doing a double?
I have been asked by my job to self report to IPN I had two drug screens recently One a patient accused me (falsely) of not giving him his medication and the other I worked an extra shift when they called me in and dozed off at computer. There were also some patient complaints - meds late, didnt answer call bells fast enough etc, and my charting was behind
Drug screens in both were negative. I actually voluntered on the second occasion to take the drug screen. I do have a previous DUI that I self reported to the BON that they dismissed.

Yeh I am not signing a contract I should also say that I had a DUI a few years back but I self reported that to the BON and they dismissed my case , not sure if that will cause an issue even tho the case was dismissed
Wasnt a double, reg 12 hr shift but I was originally off that day and came in because they called me and I was up kinda late the night before
Also I am not on any RX meds and do not do any recreational drugs at all Only thing I take is occasional OTC meds

Something doesn't sound right. So you're tired, that's why you fell asleep- and patient's complain. I've had people complain about me before and no one wanted to report me to the board. Heck, I've even done REALLY dumb stuff and forgot a MD order and I was never reported to the board. No one ever thought I had psych issues. Nurses aren't perfect, and as long as you haven't put anyone in danger, I think you are fine. Something sounds a bit strange about this to me.
