FIU Nursing 2015

Published

Hey guys! So I'm super nervous about applying to FIU because I don't think my GPA is all that great. :/ I didn't do well my first semester there so that brought my GPA doooown. Currently I have a 3.6 overall and a 3.5 science (which is really bad...I finished all of my science classes last semester). Hopefully by the end of this spring semester my overall will be at a 3.7. I do not have volunteer hours but I have been shadowing at a hospital (which I prefer because I had a bad experience volunteering lol). I'm taking the TEAS at the end of this month and I'm studying super hard for it right now >__<. if you guys have any good study tips on how to do well the teas that would be greatly appreciated too for those already in program or graduated from what think my chances are advice is great thank so much>

Hey guys, if you go to the student health center at FIU and tell them that you're a nursing student, they will waive the $93 that you would have to pay as a health fee. However, any vaccines and lab work are not covered and would have to be paid out of pocket. I got the Tdap and titers done in one day ($124). If you get the Tdap first, you will have to wait 2 weeks to get the flu shot (if you haven't already got it). I hope this info helps some people :)

Wait, what happens if you do it before two weeks? I am scared now, because I waited less than a week lol. If anyone is looking for the flu shot md now urgent care near school is doing it for $30 and they have a coupon online $25 off. I was asking around walgreens/target and it seems they don't have it until august.

How long did you wait for the titer results?

As for clinical, I thought she said it was 6 hrs once a week, but I could be wrong.

Oh I hope its only 6 hours a week..

Ok has anyone done the virtual orientation? are we supposed to do that??

Ok has anyone done the virtual orientation? are we supposed to do that??

Yeah I did it. And I think we do have to do it because it is a hold from the university.

Hey guys. I'm still at the Philippines and just got an email that the make up orientation will be on July 6. Unfortunately I won't be back until July 10 :/ so idk if missing orientation will be a bad thing. Also, I've been emailing people about this question but no one has responded and was wondering if you guys know: can I get my titers and vaccinations done in Manila, Philippines or do I have to get them done when I get back. Thanks guys!

Basically orientation was just signing a few forms and a bunch of presentations/q&a's. Everything is due before July 15th for complio.

We signed a few forms one if you wanted to volunteer at the veteran hospital for 2 years (VANAP, you either said no or yes) and a plagiarism form that is due the week of August 24th. The other forms you can find on complio (student attestation, consent/release form and I think employment verification), but we handed them in person as well. Maybe ask them to set aside those forms?

Some important things I remember was paying a $200 matriculation fee if you are transferring or changing majors. If you are already a nursing major and fiu student you don't pay it.

For titers she stressed it must be IGG even if your doctor says otherwise. I don't know about doing vaccines/titers in other countries. But you should get started now because it takes a few days or weeks for them to show up positive on the titer.

Some of us signed up for CPR classes in the STAR Center from American Heart Association. If you are certified from somewhere else that is not AHA you have to get re-certified. E-mail [email protected] to ask him about how to register and get your book to study. There were few dates available (July 11th and I think 14th).

Uniforms are at Barnes and Noble, double check that the patch on the shirt is from the college of nursing. Also you need a labcoat with the college of nursing patch. They sell them with the patch or if you have one already buy the patch and sew it on there. White shoes with no holes. Just look at the handbook, it's online.

The rest wasn't that important. They said to read the books one week in advance and spend the summer doing dimensional analysis... a book called Med Math by Anne?? I am not sure of the author.

Has anyone received a gold and blue scholarship and then they said that it doesn't count because you are a transfer student to FIU? I was awarded one and now they said that it doesn't count because it was wrongfully awarded to me.

Thank you so much! I've been emailing them but I still haven't gotten a response -____-

Can someone help me find the place to upload the documents on the complio website because idk where to find it >_

You would have had to order the bsn generic compliance package ($30) in order to upload the documents.

What kind of sneakers are you guys getting? Idk where to look for all white leather ones besides uniform stores. If anyone knows of a good place please let me know :)
