First Year--Gain Weight or Lose Weight?

Published

I was at my yearly GYN exam last week and realized (hardly a shock, just in denial) that I have gained over 10 lbs since the start of nursing school. I have this huge fear that in my first year of nursing, I won't lose the weight and I'll gain even more.

So, my question is, in your first year, did you gain or lose weight (or stay the same)? Does anyone have any tips (besides staying away from the cookies in the break room) on trying to lose weight while under the stress of the first year?

Thanks!

I was so worried about the weight I gained in nursing school. I can see that is what happens for the most part what with sitting and studying for hours and hours and hours and hours and...........whew..... I weigh more now than i ever have in my whole life. There were many late nights studying with junk food.

I gained about 20 pounds in nursing school and now as an RN I have lost about 10 pounds in about 4 months :) I was shocked that I had lost weight actually.

I think I lost weight because I don't sit around for hours in class or sitting on the couch for hours studying, etc. Now I'm on my feet for 12 hour shifts (which I love btw) and on my days off I am out with the kids going to the zoo and things like that. I'm also getting more sleep now that I'm out of school (you know losing sleep you gain weight). I also bring my own lunch/dinner to work.
