Well, not REALLY my own room, but this morning one of the nurses who's been precepting me said "OK, on this next case, make believe I'm not in the OR. Unless you do or forget something potentially dangerous to the patient, I'm just going to stand off to the side and say nothing, and we'll talk about it later".
The case was a lapchole, which I've helped with on a fair number of cases, and I ran the room, from opening the case, to getting the patient (along with anesthesia per hospital policy), keeping all the computerized records, handing stuff into the fields, hooking up all the leads to the laparoscopic tools, bovie, etc. Man, what a thrill! The ONLY thing I forgot to do was to turn on the camera's printer, and that was easily remedied intraoperatively.
Next case was a very simple excisional biopsy of a lower leg skin lesion and I basically ran the show for that one too.
Not too bad, being a new grad and only in the OR for 4 weeks

Congratulations...It IS a thrill isn't it? My first time alone I did a D&C and 2 podiatry cases and thought I was all that and a bag of chips. Sounds like you are a natural..keep up the good work!!
Heck, if it was Podiatry, I could have done the surgery!(I was a podiatrist before I went to nursing school)

wow! The first time I did something like was when I was in 3rd yr. college, BSN. Actually, its just a biopsy of an unknown thing. Even the doctors dont know what it is. I thought I will have a nurse with me considering I'm just a student. Our clinical instructor is the unit manager of the area. While the operation is on-going, I was really wondering why there are lots of interns and residents, and 1 consultant in the Room. So I started looking for our CI. I just found out, there's only one nurse in the room. And that's the circulating nurse, while I stood there really nervous and dont know what to do!!!! After that, men! Did that really boost my confidence! I love what I'm doing!!!!! Then the team thanked me.... cool..........
Oh! I forgot! There's this one situation. I was also at my 3rd yr. when an intern collapse in the middle of the operation. I was asked to replaced her. Then another intern came in to replace the other intern who collapsed. The consultant and resident sent him out because I was able to do their job..... It's really something but I felt bad for the two interns....
