First time PRN while working Full time

While searching for jobs, i applied to multiple facilities. i was hired by one facility that offered a full time 3-11 RN position. and another job i applied to offered a PRN job. how do i handle this? what happens if the PRN job calls me in when i work my 3-11 shift. luckily the two facilities are not far from each other. what the rules? how late can i be to my PRN job? what if i'm getting off my PRN 7-3 shift and have to go straight into my FT 3-11 shift?

Usually if you're prn you can tell them what shifts you're available, so the overlap shouldn't be a problem. PRN is convenient for them, but it is for you too.

At my PRN job they call and ask if I can work, I say yes or no depending on what I want. I have no obligation to holidays, weekends, or the amount of shifts I take. It does not interfere with my full time job as I get to decide when I work.

PRN doesn't mean you're on call 24/7/365. Generally when the FT'ers are scheduled, you find out from the scheduler what shifts are open and you pick which ones you want to work; those you are committed to. Since you'll have another FT job, you wait for that schedule before you commit to any shifts at your PRN job. If they call to ask you to work on a day you're not already scheduled for, you either say "Sure I can," or "Sorry I can't." This applies whether you're already working at your other job, if you're busy taking your kids to the park, or if you just don't want to get out of your PJs today.

This. I've held multiple PRN jobs while working full-time. Like you, my full-time was during 3-11. If a PRN called and I was already scheduled to work at my full-time I would tell them before agreeing to the shift that I would have to leave at 2:30 (if it were 7-3) or get there at midnight (if it were 11-7). Not once did I get told no. Usually when they are calling at the very last minute it is to cover a call off, so they really need someone. But as the above poster said, if you're scheduled, you're committed to those shifts. But you shouldn't commit to scheduled shifts until you know your schedule at your full-time. You don't get that leverage of asking to leave early or come in late for scheduled shifts, so don't schedule shifts back to back.
