First Nursing Job

I am also as new as you are, and just finished orientation. We can't know everything in 2 or 3 weeks. I have to remind myself to be kind to myself :) we just have a lot to learn. I'm sure it just comes with time. Good luck.

Hang in there and do your best. I also suggest you sign up for an CEU offering in time management, online...Not to add more pressure but to give you an outlet to try to get with it easier. If you like to read and learn that way buy a book on time management preferably in healthcare.

I believe that once nurses relax a bit and get confident enough to breathe, they start to be better with their time. It will take a long time to feel comfortable but I would make my goal to feel like I will get thru the shift safely. Do it in baby steps and before you know it things will fall into place for you. I would get really disorganized starting with my report sheet and how to organize all the information at the beginning of a shift. I finally made my own, had my information organized where I knew where it was. It helps with the clutter. I think the best thing to do is start out the shift with your information organized and prioritize from there. If you got that down you can manage your time better! My first 6 mths were rough but it gets sooooo much better from there!

Hang in there - you have not begun to get your skills and routine down so early, and your anxiety reflects your insight and motivation to get better at it. Your preceptor is happy, so keep striving, keep learning, keep asking questions, and keep seeking support. You can do it, but its not a journey of a few weeks, it never ends but gets better as you go. After 10 years I feel confident and comfortable - and I'm still learning. I never plan to stop....
