First Job as a Nurse Manager for new grad

Published

I just got my license and moved to upstate New York and submitted many applications as I could.

Since there are not many hospitals around here, I had a interview at a local nursing&rehab center just in case. However, they offered me for a nurse manager position here.

What do you think if a new grad RN starting a first job as a nurse manager at a nursing home?

Should I keep looking for a job at a hospital? Because it doesn't seem easy to get a job here in upstate ny. Any thoughts or advices for me please?

This is easy. Take it and enjoy the money. Screw the hospital. Not everyone jumps into a management position right away. Typically that requires some bedside experience. At the very least, try it out. You might have won the job lottery.

And less you have some relevant management and regulatory experience I think it would be a huge risk to your career and confidence.

Specializes in Pediatrics, Emergency, Trauma.

I did a few stints in LTC as a supervisor as a new RN-and even had a background of being an LPN and worked in LTC, and it was a HUGE learning curve.

I ended up utilizing the skills I learned as a supervisor worked them into a post acute, then an acute care position.

I didn't mind the position because of my relevant experience; however, my work-life balance and health is much more better not being in that position anymore.
