It went better than expected. I did almost every skill needed in the first day. I do have to say that I think I'll be losing weight over the next few weeks. The smells certainly have made me lose my appetite. I wanted to change and shower right at the hospital, and not bring my scrubs home.It is still lingering even though I have been home for a few hours. We did have a patient pass away on the floor I was working on, of course that will happen on the first day right ?
Anyways I can breathe a sigh of relief. 2 1/2 more weeks to go! Sorry just had to share :)

Sounds like your first day went better than when I had that class. I swore I never wanted to go back! I did though & enjoyed the rest of the clinicals. That first day though was a doozy!

If I hadn't had any patient experience I probably would have either thrown up or passed out. At least I have seen decubitis ulcers, IV's, and drainage tubes before. 2 girls went up to ICU, and got stuck in isolation all gowned and masked while a doc was putting in an arterial line. Talk about jumping in with both feet!

i'm taking the last 2 weeks of my cna class now...hoping to squeeze everything in before nursing school in august. i love the class and the nursing home is actually a great place! the people are all so sweet and fun. the cranky ones just need more love shown. but i'm really dreading my state test. it sounds like it's the end of the world or something according to my teacher. i didn't think it would be so hard but with all of this "technical" clinical stuff i'm beginning to worry....

BabyRn,
The test really isn't that bad for CNA, atleast here in Ohio. I do have to admit that I didn't pass the first time, because for some odd reason, I wrote down the wrong number for a weight when I read the weight correct, just was so nervous and such, that I actually wrote down the wrong number. Yeah, smart me. But, hey I survived second time around, and am now working at a nursing home and loving it. =) So good luck! You can do it. :) :)
Thanks!:) I hope I get it together before then...

I'm sure you'll do great. If you keep your mind on the safety issues, I.E. - identify the pt, wash hands, privacy etc.. you'll do fine! I went to an assisted living facility yesterday and loved it! 2 more weeks at the hospital and I'm done :) State testing is August 13th.
