i started back to work this week after taking 2 years off, I am a LPN, and worked as a nurse for 1 year before that. I went back to same nursing home that i had left. My problem is that i seem to have forgotten alot of stuff. I feel i should of retained it all but i didnt. I have forgotten which meds cant be crushed which i wonder if there is a place to find that. has anyone not worked for awhile and then came back an feel like they had to start over.

I have forgotten which meds cant be crushed which i wonder if there is a place to find that.

www.ismp.org will have lots of info. for you including a current do not crush list.

pharmacy should be able to give you list of meds which can be crushed

never crush enteric coated always check with pharmacy before opening any capsule

Welcome back to the workforce. Check with your pharmacy as the others stated and don't stress too much, it'll all come back to you before you know it.

It just seems i am nervous about everything that i used to be comfortable with, I had to give a IM shot and i was even nervous about that, i sure lost and confidence i did have

It will get better, just take it one day at a time.

Most LTCs will have a list of meds that could/ shouldn't be crushed, meds to give with food/ empty stomach etc in the front of the MAR. If not, I'll bet your pharm has a list in the P & P book. We even not it on the MAR. Our manual has a ton of other info in it too.

Some of the nursing drug reference books have a lot of info in the back sections of them too.

I feel the same way after I take time off when I have kids. I'm willing to bet alot of it will come back to you! Never a dumb question either.
