Finished my MSN this morning - ask me anything!

Nursing Students Western Governors

Updated:   Published

I completed the final oral defense for my MSN through this morning. I also have my BSN from WGU.

Completed RN-to-BSN in one, six month term, and the MSN in 11 months and five days (not that I'm counting!)

Two degrees for under $10K out of pocket, including books. (I received a total of $2K in scholarships)

So----- I'm going to put myself out there and if you would like info about either program from a recent grad -hit me up!

Hi,

Cmr3009, if you are looking for FB groups, look for the following all of which I follow & have been very helpful to me: RN TO BSN Support Group, WGU RN BSN-MSN-Support, and WGU RN to MSN Education.

I want to complete my MSN at as well but not sure how I would complete my Capstone. I am a school nurse in a rural area. The closest nursing education facility would be over an hour away. Any suggestions on how I could make that work? Sounds like we must work for a medical facility to complete the Capstone since it takes many hours to complete it.

You will be able to figure it out through your job. The mentors will help you figure out your capstone. I LOVE .

Do we still have to get IRB approvals? I heard that was time consuming?

No- the capstone is different now. No IRB involved!

Hi!

I currently have my ADN & ultimately want to obtain my MSN. Would you recommend doing RN to BSN first then MSN or just start straight into the RN to MSN program? I work full time & have a 1yr old & of course looking to grow my family in years to come. If I do the MSN I'd have 24 classes to complete. Realistically how long do you think this would take? Or how many classes is average to knock out in 6m?

Thank you!! Congrats!! :)

Hi everyone! I know this is an old post, but I'm really leaning towards attending for the BSN to MSNed program. I just wanted to know if anyone can tell me how it's going. How long did the program take? How do you like it? Is it totally "learn on your own" or do you have "study group" online that you can bounce ideas off of? Has anyone obtained a position at a community college or university after graduation? Thanks so much in advance!

Hi There Caligirl,

I can’t speak highly enough about ’s program! It is competency based so you only learn what you don’t already know. Many nurses have gone on to many different positions after Completing the program. I completed my BSN in about 9 months and my MSN in about 9 months. The completion time is different for everyone. After WGU, I went to Chatham University and completed my DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice)! I am proud of every school I attended. If I were to ever go back for a second Masters, I would go to WGU! I hope this answers your questions...

Thank you so much for your reply! Hopefully I can get on a monthly payment plan to go back to school. I want to get it done in the least amount of time to keep the cost down. What is a realistic timeframe so that you aren't stressing out?

its hard to say...I had the same questions! Lol it is possible to complete everything in 6 months, but that would be extremely stressful and you would have to work on it non-stop. Overall, it is a great program and you will not find another program that you can move through so quickly. Also, you will receive a very well-rounded education!

Awesome! Thank you so much. I'm definitely swaying more and more towards applying to the program.

HI Meanmaryjear,

Congrats on your accomplishment! Where did you go for DNP after the MSN at ? Was it difficult than WGU?
