fingerprint cards

Hi
Has anyone had trouble getting their fingerprint cards done at their local police station. My local station has never has this request before and advised me that all their fingerprint cards would be kept (I presume of suspected criminals). They also advised me that the American Embassey would probably need to do them!
Any comments or advice would be appreciated.

The agency sent me the fingerprint cards and the local cop shop did it for me free, but only because hubby is pc, normally they charge around 30 pounds, You need to do them as part of verifying your credentials and the FBI I believe have to check them, they sent mine back the first time and said they were not acceptable, so I had to do them again. The police stations here in Uk dont do fingerprints in the same way anymore so you cant get the cards from here, and I doubt the US embassy would do them.

if you are in the US you can try the Sheriff or Highway Patrol. In Texas all the agencies are aware that fingerprinting is required of all nurses, so it is no longer a problem here. It might help to show documentation that fingerprints are required. Our BON supplies the cards too, so the police do not have that expense.

Question: Why do I need to be fingerprinted?

Answer: The Nursing Practice Act 61-3-13 and 61-3-18 requires that applicants for initial licensure or endorsement, at their cost provide the board with fingerprints and other information necessary for a state and national criminal background check.

Question: Where do my fingerprints go?

Answer: Your fingerprints are submitted to the New Mexico Department of Public Safety for a statewide criminal background check and also to the Federal Bureau of Investigation for a nationwide criminal background check.

Question: Who can take my fingerprints?

Answer: Public law enforcement official or other agency staff trained by the New Mexico Department of Public safety or an equivalent state agency in another state. In a foreign country, public law enforcement official or other agency staff who have been trained how to do fingerprinting.

Question: Do I need to send the fingerprints with my application?

Answer: Yes, the application will not be processed without submission of fingerprints.

Question: Can I submit one money order for both my application and fingerprints?

Answer: No, one money order or cashier's check made out to the New Mexico Board of Nursing is for your application and the other money order or cashier's check made out to the New Mexico Department of Public Safety is for the state and nationwide background check.

Question: Where do I get fingerprint cards?

Answer: You can request them from the board in writing, by phone or e-mail [email protected]. You can also use cards that are issued by the FBI. They must be lined with blue on the front and have the following on the back of the card-Federal Bureau of Investigation United States Department of Justice CJIS Division/Clarksburg WV 26306. Leave the following boxes blank if the cards are not issued by the board of nursing: ORI and reason fingerprinted.

Question: How long does it take to complete a background check?

Answer: The backgrounds check can take up to 12 weeks or more if fingerprints are clear and classifiable. If information is missing, fingerprints are rejected, the fee, fingerprint certificate form, or Authorization for Release of Information are not submitted it process would take longer.

Question: Can a permit to practice or temporary license be issued while the background check is being completed?

Answer: Yes, if your file contains the necessary documentation.

Question: Can a license be issued while the background check is being completed?

Answer: Yes, if you file is complete.

Question: If I was fingerprinted by another agency or board, can these results be shared with the New Mexico Board of Nursing?

Answer: No, the FBI does not allow this and each agency has different criteria that may disqualify an applicant.

Question: What criminal action would be cause for a disciplinary hearing before the board?

Answer: A criminal history of conviction of felonies or violations of the Nursing Practice Act

Question: Who can I speak with if I have additional questions?

Answer: Any staff member should be able to answer your questions or you can ask to speak to the person responsible for finger printing.

NCLEX-Exam

Question: If I took the exam in another state more than once and did not pass, am I eligible to take the exam for New Mexico?

Answer: You are eligible to take the exam for New Mexico as many times as you want every ninety-one days.

Question: When can I schedule an appointment to take my exam?

Answer: Upon receipt of your exam application it can take up to two weeks before you are declared eligible. Once you are declared eligible the National Council of State Boards will mail your authorization to test (ATT). When you receive your ATT you will need to call and schedule your exam.

Question: What if my authorization to test has my full middle name and my driver's license has just an initial for my middle name:

Answer: If your authorization to test (ATT) has your full middle name and your license has just an initial representing your middle name, your ATT will still be accepted.

Question: How long does it take to receive my results after taking the exam?

Answer: It could take up to four weeks to receive your results through the mail. The Board of Nursing does not give results over the phone and is not registered to receive the Quick Results. If it has been more than four weeks, give us a call and we will look into the problem.

Question: If I am a non-US graduate how do I apply to take the NCLEX?

Answer: If you are a non-US graduate and successfully completed the CGFNS exam you may apply to take the exam. You will need to submit a copy of your CGFNS certificate with your exam application. If you do not have a CGFNS certificate or educational evaluation, you will need to make a request to your school that they send your transcript directly to the Board of Nursing to be evaluated. If your transcript is not in English, you must make arrangements to have the transcript translated by some qualified and sent to the board. You will need to contact the board regarding your transcript evaluation.. If your education is found to be comparable, then you may request an exam application from the Board of Nursing or download the exam application from the website at http://www.state.nm.us/nursing

Question: Where can I get fingerprint cards since they cannot be downloaded with the fingerprint instructions.

Answer: If you are downloading the fingerprint instruction off the website, you need to make sure that your fingerprints are done on the blue and white cards at the place you are having them done. If they do not have the blue and white cards, you can request the fingerprint cards from the Board of Nursing by e-mail [email protected]

Question: Is there more than one NCLEX exam site in New Mexico?

Answer: There is only one NCLEX exam site in New Mexico and it is located in Albuquerque. You are not required to test in New Mexico if you are applying for licensure here. You may test any where there is a testing site.

Question: What do I do if it has been more than a year since I took the last exam?

Answer: If it has been more than a year since you took the NCLEX exam you need to contact the Board of nursing to request the initial exam packet. The board does not keep applicant files for more than a year.

Question: Who can I address additional questions to?

Answer: Currently Emily Gurule is the clerk responsible for the examination section. If she is unavailable you can speak to any of the staff who will either answer your questions or direct your call to the appropriate person.

My dh and I needed to be fingerprinted for our adoption homestudy - fingerprints sent to FBI or some federal agency - I forget which. The first set were done at a suburban police station and were unacceptable. (Low crime, not much practice w/ the prints I guess.)

I called the metro area (main station) we live in and made an appt to have fingerprints done - when they learned why, they went out of their way to find an "expert" so they would be perfect. (They found a guy on staff that was fomer FBI fingerprint expert - also an adoptive dad -- awww:) )

At both places, I showed them the paperwork from the agency outlining what was needed. Even tho it was never heard of...since it was in writing from another agency, there was no problem once they saw it in writing.

Maybe if you bring your own forms...

Where are you livng? The US Embassy has nothing to do with fingerprints, whatsoever.............if you tell me where you are, I an tell you where to go..

We got ours from our local Police Station but my Hubby was a Police Sergeant and got it all sorted from his ex - colleagues!!!

hi does anyone know the process of fingerprinting in new jersey? where can i get the fingerprint cards? can i avail them at the local police station or do i have to go to the board of nursing

Normally they are available thru the Board of Nursing. Where are you now?

Best suggestion is to check with the Board of Nursing, each state is different.

I am a NJ RN and want to relocate to Florida, the problem is i`m having a problem on how to get my fingerprints. NJ has their own fingerprint card, (#NJAPS2 Version 3.0) but Florida wants me to use the FD 258, and NJ won`t use that. anybody had this problem before? pls help.
