for everyone who works out routinely during the semester...how do you do it? with classes, clinicals, and studying how do you fit it into your schedule? anytime i'm doing something other than studying, i feel guilty like i should be studying. i tend to stay at school late, so by the time i get home all i can do is sleep. please share your routines or any suggestions...

I like to take walks for study breaks. If I'm not walking during a break, I do some sit ups or push ups...this helps me stay awake and since I hate doing them....I actually want to go back and study!
I also make sure that I have exercise equipment at home....nothing huge, like weights or exercise videos. I find that if it's here, I'm more likely to do it than if I have to go to the gym. I know i could definitely exercise more, but I'll take it where I can get it!! :)
IMO we all NEED to make time to workout while in nursing school! I think it should be just as important a studying. Your going to help keep your stress levels down, have more energy to be able to do all we have to do (clinicals, classes, kids, homework,housework, etc) and keep our weight at least maintained.
Diet has a lot to do with how well you maintain your body comp. or how well you lose weight, gain weight, ect.. So keep in mind that diet is far more important than exercise, although exercise is still very important.
As far as lifting weights goes, you can get by with lifting 2 days a week if you do it right. Full-body workouts done properly will do more good than working out 4 days a week not knowing what you're doing.

It's not impossible to work around most everyone's schedule, you just have to plan it out and stick to it.

I'm not sure I agree with some of the posters who say they get up an hour early to get to the gym. Seems to me like paying sleep deprivation for exercise is not exactly a payoff...
I use to run everday, in the morning around 5:30am, until I got into a car wreck and hurt my back (herniated disc). Getting up was rarely a problem and I always felt great throughout the day. After my wreck I started sleeping in and I felt like crap at work. I'd fall asleep at my desk and nod off on the way home sometimes. I'd also have trouble falling asleep and rarely laid down before midnight. Overall I just felt.... bleh. I am now 3 weeks back into my old exercise routine - getting up at 5:30am again - and I feel SOOO much better. I am more tired at night and I'm usually in bed no later than 11:00 and I sleep better. When the alarm goes off in the morning, I get up and I feel great. Seriously. I know it sounds weird, but exercising in the AM has made a HUGE difference for me, and I love it. You should give it a try.

This is so true. I can tell the difference in my workouts if I eat bad the day before. I always feel much better if I stick to my healthy foods and not venture out... but bad for you foods taste soooooo good.
