Finding job on the West Coast

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hi all and happy new year!

I will hopefully be moving out to Seattle in a few months and will be living with my cousin temporarily and I just wanted to ask two things:

1) Does anyone know of any hospitals, home care facilities or any health care setting that is hiring new grad nurses right now? Are there any temp agencies out west that can put nurses to work on a short term basis?

2) If you are a nurse on the west coast (California, Oregon or Washington) do you know of any recruitment events that are going on around you between March and June of next year? I would love to talk to as many managers as possible so that I'm not just another one of the thousands of applications that gets lost in the HR pile.

Just FYI - I am very flexible to work in a variety of settings. I realize that I won't get my dream job straight out of school and that's ok. I also can relocate easily since I won't be signing a lease with my cousin. Also - I am from Delaware and I absolutely NEED to move out of this soul-sucking state but the biggest cities around me have insane job markets and I only have about 3 or 4 friends at hospitals outside of Delaware.

Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks!!

Do you have an ASN or a BSN degree? The answer to this question often dictates the opportunities that may be available to you.

Unfortunately, the West Coast is home to just as tough of a nursing employment market as the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. Good luck to you.

BSN but yes I'm prepared. If I can't find anything I can stay with my brother for free in Michigan and hopefully find something in the Detroit or Ann Arbor area

The job market is tough for new grads in Seattle, but there are still plenty of opportunities, especially if you go a bit outside the city. Just make sure you have a good resume, cover letter, and references Most of my classmates (from a school just a bit outside of Seattle) have jobs either in residencies or LTC facilities. Many have actually finished their residencies and are working as real nurses in the hospitals they did their residencies at. We graduated in June.

This was just what I needed to hear, thank you!!

Just an update, I am now working at Virginia Mason and I love it!
