Finding a job as a New Grad RN in Akron, Ohio - Need Advce

Published

I will be graduating with my ADN in the next year and will be relocating back to my hometown, Akron, OH. I am wondering if anyone can give me an idea of the what the job market is like in the area; what the pay is averaging, best facilities, etc. Any and all words of wisdom and experience would be appreciated!

I am an older student - have significant work experience under my belt (non-medical); former Paralegal as well as Dir. of Cust. Relations - I realize this will not apply when trying to find an RN position...just throwing it out there:)

Anyway, if anyone could give me some advice/direction, I would be grateful!

Thanks so much

I have lived in Akron my entire life, and just graduated from a BSN program. I think it depends on what kind of facility you want to work at. Many of the hospitals are requiring all new RN hires to have a bachelors. Akron is loaded with BSN-RN programs, so unfortunately, the area is cranking out more RN's than there are jobs right now =/ realistically, you might have a tough time getting a job there right now because of your ADN.

I live in Akron and graduated in May with my ADN, most of my classmates received our license last month. The hospitals in the Akron/Canton is hard to get into because most require you to have a BSN. Some of my classmates are getting jobs in Cleveland since they want to work in hospital. Others are finding jobs in LTC, SNF, and LTAC facilities. I believe it depends on what area you want to work. But most likely, if you are looking for a hospital setting with an ADN, your chances of getting hired in the Akron area is very slim since there are so many BSN and ADN programs in the area pushing out new grads each semester.
