Finally able to practice nursing. Jobs???

Nurses Recovery

Published

I'm finally able to practice nursing after being out for 6 years. I'm on a 2 year probation with my BON with stipulations on passing narcotics and a public view of all my mistakes.

A fellow old coworker told me her LTC facility was desperately hiring and she even told them I was coming in to put in an application and seemed to be OK with it. I was hoping to get an interview on the spot so I could fight for a position and convince them that I'm worth taking a chance on. The DON was in a meeting and the HR lady told me she would give me a call to set up a interview. And I haven't heard anything.

I'm starting to feel like this is going to be a needle in a haystack. Prior to me leaving nursing I only had 2 jobs. One I left on good terms and one I was fired from and reported to the BON.

I guess I'm looking for some postive comments saying that you have found a job with a public BON record. I'm so desperate to get back to nursing I'm willing to work for free to show my worth! ??‍♀️

I would encourage all of you to consider in-patient psych. The shifts are usually 8 hours and RN's are almost never required to pass meds as that is mostly done by psych techs and LVNs. They are also generally more forgiving that acute medical hospitals unless you are on the OIG Exclusion list. If you run your license through NURSYS you can see if you are an excluded entity. There are steps you can take to get off that list.

Good luck to you all.

I have tried that, I got a call back from one and checked my application status and it said not selected. ?‍♀️. Not going to give up! Gotta keep pushing through!

Your CM wouldn't allow a LPN? My paperwork just says professional nurse has to be present. I had an interview Friday and she said she would be calling me this week after my background check comes back. I have a clean criminal record so I'm begging and praying To my higher power that this works out. ???

Mine specifically states a nurse with same level or higher level of education. So, it must be RN or NP.

Gotcha! Sorry! Any luck with any other places?

I know everyone reads that places are desperate for RN's right now,

Depending on where you live, this may or may not be true. Some areas have nurses (of all levels) off due to furlough from low census regarding COVID-19. Chin up, it may take a little longer than usual. Try dialysis clinics, as another poster stated, we have no narcotics on site

When I was in the program I worked with a LVN with 30+ years experience and a RN. When the RN left they hired a RN with approximately 8 months nursing experience. Well guess who had to find a new job. The powers that be felt like the LVN with decades of experience was not adequately trained to recognize a impaired nurse and the RN with 8 months experience wasn't either until she reached her 12 months experience.

That was years ago and it still raises my pressure. Is that not the most ridiculous nonsense you've heard! How could something so STUPID, IGNORANT AND THOUGHTLESS come out of my CM's mouth. Maybe she was in recovery too and fried too many brain cells or maybe she was just a dumb f$#k. I had to find a new freaking job after almost 2 years.

OMG I can't believe the BS I had to put up with.

Now that's 10 minutes of my life I can't get back remembering that s*#t!
