*Final Exam * TIPS

Published

hello,

i am in my junior year of bsn program, and currently in my "adults" rotation. the class is only 7 weeks and is9 credits , but only have 3 exams (2 exams, 1 cummulative final) they do not count any papers, projects, work in clinical toward grade. plus the passing grade in our program is above a 73%.

my final consists of:

-iv therapy

-perfusion

-oxygenation

-diabetes m and insipidous

-renal

-endocrine

-immunology

-oncology

-hiv, lupus, transplants

on the exams throughout the course, i got c's on both. im just not sure how to cover everything. for each of the above topics, we need to know most of diseases/disorders , all signs/symptoms, lab values (example: the questions on the exam give 3 abnormal labs, and interventions, we need to know what diseases cause and diseases, signs /symptons of each of abnormal lab result. they also expect us to know what medications to give for abnormal labs, along with drug classifications, starting dosages, toxicity and levels of toxicity. along with knowing physiology of each disease/disorder , and which drug the patient should take depending on if the disease /disorder is primary, 2nd, tertiary.

*i feel that sometimes i overstudy the material and dont find time to understand everything about each topic. i like to read/research about the entire disease and know everything about them bc i like to and it helps me understand. it does no good studying the information that will just be on exam and not study/know how to react/intervine in clinical.

i would appreciate it so much if anyone could tell me/ provide tips on how to break down the nursing style questions during the exam, along with looking out for certain hints in the question. also could someone tell me specific topics (diseases, lab values, sign and symptoms) of some of the topics mentioned above.

thanks for your time,

I would use the syllabus and or class notes or slides as a study guide.

If you know the topics allready as your post above, I would look at each and understand what each one means, like for IV therapy- know your major veins where to put the IV, and know about the different types of IVF such as Isotonic, hypertonic etc etc.

I would look for something that popped out at me, and something important of each topic listed. then of course, I would practice what I know by doing questions on nclex-rn study guide books.

best of luck! you can do it!
