I have been looking for threads on this topic,so far all of these threads get closed up (locked). That is a sad thing because as a non-filipino nurse we need a place to go to talk about this. This doesnt mean necessarily in a negative way. I dont dare say one thing or my thoughts because it will be closed. I will say this my new, first job it is apparently a Filipino hospital. I assumed it was an American one. I was hired by the one of the handful of Americans. Already I see the standards are different and there are other noticeable differences as well. Reading the other threads on this topic was a tremendous help. As an American we are accustomed to a high quality of care being given, good amount of honesty & integrity, cleanliness, compassion for the patient as a living human being. I chose to work here because of all the experience I would have but I want to learn the correct way. Also not all but most of these nurses seem not to welcome outsiders as Ive already been forewarned. These are the ones that either throw their credentials in my face without being asked or act so mean and disagreeable and write up another nurse without so much as a simple warning first. I am glad that I was able to find other nurses at allnurses willing to talk about this and that I am not the only one noticing these things. There are other foreigners but there are not as many as the filipinos. Things are not all hearts and flowers, this is a nursing board where we need to be able to be open to discuss our experiences. Commenting on this is not biased but based on the fact of personal experiences. Evidently USA healthcare standards are decling based on this and what can you do when those in charge are filipinos.
I wouldnt believe this is a culture thing because they are not all like this, dont know if it a eating of one's young. I think that maybe and let me know what you think that they are the majority like I said w/ the americans being a very, very small fraction and w/that some dont care how they treat me or others that are not like them. This often happens with a majority anything then when a different one comes many times certain people within that group act up.
I dont believe in denying or covering up for bad, poor behaviour to other people and then for someone to call me a liar...oh they said they werent calling me a liar but...., speaks volumes to me. Why would I create such a story?! That is incredulous and serves no purpose here or anyplace else for that matter.
I want to emphasis something here, my vent is specifically about those filipinno nurses that are NOT being all the good things that some talked about in this thread. Why would anyone defend bad behaviour please explain that to me. Is it that it is too impossible to believe? If there wasnt something wrong, I wouldnt have a vent in the first place.
And meanwhile, I still have to live with this at least for the time being. I love nursing, get along with the people I work with because I make the effort which includes ignoring alot because Im new. With all my trying, in this environment I know I'd better watch my back and watch my p's and q's.
P/s, there is a reason I didnt say anything to anyone in my facility and wont.... just look at the initial reactions to this thread.

Yes, it is impossible to believe that only persons from your culture are compassionate, professional and generous etc. etc. and Filipinos aren't because that is not the reality elsewhere. It seems to be pretty much isolated incidents since a lot of people aren't jumping on your bandwagon here.
No apologies here, because I've worked with Filipinos. Obviously you need to vent and you have, but understand what types of responses you're going to get in return. If you're going to dish it out you're going to have to take it.
People of course should respect your opinions and vents. If you're having a hard time, we should respect that.
Emphasis mine.
Oh alright I shouldnt have said that and so I apologize for that because that comment can be taken the wrong way by some people. Note though that she is the one that in front of patients and others said the F word and argues on the floor. Sas... I wish you would talk to me though . . . about this. Not argue....just help me to understand ..... instead of coming out of the woodwork to 'catch' me making a comment you can use against me. Please, I didnt come here to argue but to vent and hopefully get insight into THIS specific situation. Thanks. And by the way, I hope that you are never in the same type situation that I am experiencing, it doesnt feel very good.

Honey, the point is that you have *A* nasty nurse who might have a few buddies who don't stand up to her. I and others think that your error is not in thinking that this is a nasty person - she is - but in thinking that this somehow extrapolates to people from the Philippines in general.
Do you see the difference?
I was mercilessly bullied on a floor. There is a 21 page thread buried from a year ago about my ultimately being fired from that job. They were all American born white girls, like me.

exactly.
this has nothing to do with one's ethnicity, and everything to do with one's moral compass.

life is just too darned short.

Thanks for your response but I think maybe you have read all of my posts too quickly because youre using specific sentences out of context. If you want me to clarify more let me know but i think i wrote pretty clear on most of my posts. What you chose to copy from out of my posts sounds to put it simply 'stupid' and ignorant. I explained it thoroughly. I wish you would have put it in its entirety for the others to see instead of choosing things to make me look bad and take away from the point I was making. Why would you do this, I ask myself. Again it seems, I apologize if Im wrong, that some are trying to make me look bad instead of sticking with the point of this thread.
Isolated incidents ok , that is probably what I am experiencing. It doesnt make it right though.
With even this, I expect some will chop and use whatever to try and make me look bad ((why))??? Meanwhile.....my situation at work is not being addressed at all and was the reason for my original thread.

We have addressed your problem at work. You don't want to hear it because, while we believe that you are being mistreated, we object to your turning it into a racial/cultural thing.
We have been very patient with your anger, which you are taking out on everyone trying to help.

Thanks for talking to me. The reason I brought nationality into it is because it is so dominated. If that is unacceptable, I will rectify that and ask for pardon. This helps me to see better, I wish more would explain .... because what may seem obvious becomes sometimes that can get cloudy sometimes esp. w/ unusual or new situations.

I do tend to weed threads down to a sentence or two, usually the part of the post I would like to address. I don't think I'm taking things out of context and if it makes you look bad the intention really is to address something specific.
This thread would have taken a whole different course if you started out "I am having problems with coworkers, who happen to be Filipino" rather than your statements that healthcare in the USA is being drug down by these workers.
Best wishes with your situation.

That's okay. Just try to separate their race from what is happening. A lot of nurses end up bullied and it sounds like that is what's happening to you.
Perhaps the mods could close this thread and you could start over, and omit heading the thread with a nationality.
:)

Alright then... it just sounded to me that not many were getting my point because they were giving defenses and denials instead of addressing specifically my work issue. I do want to hear it, I just hope others can hear me without getting sensitive about the racial/cultural thing. I dont mean to take it out on anyone, was explaining..... Again, if it seemed like i was doing that, not hearing, i apologize
Thanks Suesquatch, thank you for talking to me. I really appreciate it
