my husband and i will be working in BC this year both as a nurse. Just want to know how nursing fares in canada.

thank you so much!

try other provinces and keep on searching on how to apply for registration. You can have your credentials assessed anytime you want to. You dont have to wait for 5 mos as what they have been telling you.

Fiona--- I'm sorry if I offended you or others that felt badly about what i posted. I have no plans of using Canada as a stepping stone to US. If ever i will go there it's because I have simply chosen Alberta over California. Thus my questions about my pending contract with Capital Health. I'm sure Canada is great...good people...peacefull nation...but the question is -- how will I live there? As a Nurse AIde? Such is my predicament that yeilds these questions. There are a lot if inconsistencies--why would they tell me I could go home when i want to even if the contract is not yet finished? Too much comfort for me. But then why would they hire hundreds of NUrse aides right? Doesn't make sense. ---- I'd pick Canada in a heartbeat... but I should have a concrete plan to support my family.

Suzanne--- I know that going to Canada wont make my US processing any faster(slower) than it is now. I know too that there are legal implications abt my US contract. The thing is...the feeling here in the Philippines( and other countries as well ) is that we are pushing ourselves to somebody that doesn't want us. Hey, we are also gonna lose thousands of dollars if bail we out now...NCLEX, IELTS, Review Centers, plane fare to Saipan, etc. Not to mention undetermined time wasted in waiting. Then here comes CAnada...offering the same thing albeit more credible because they could do it now...not two years from now.

-----so my question really is....Will these so called legal problems still bite my behind if I do reside permanently in Canada? I mean it's no that I ditched them off in place of another hospital in US? I gained nothing for what they paid for. I paid a lot too...and Igot nothing out of it. US doesn't seem to wants us...you think that's reason enough to call it quits? As always...thanks a lot suzanne

hi bagwis rn, just wondering why you didn't ask capital health employers about the nurse auxillary job offer during your face to face interview, don't you have the option to wait for your carna assessment in the philippines then be hired as a graduate nurse instead?

Malaya-- well it's an interview...meaning they asks the questions. I asked some of their staff and they only told me that it's the 1st time they're doing this. They told me that it's the fastest way to get there. I could have my CARNA assessment once I get there...and I could work at the same time.

hi bagwis, for what it's worth i was one of the over 400 nurses interviewed by capital health, the nurses with a ready CARNA assessment were offered GN positions. the rest like us were offered nurse auxillary positions. what really peeved me though was despite our BSN education and years of nursing experience in a tertiary hospital, as nursing assistants (which auxillary actually is) we were yet categorized as to some getting $14/hr and some getting $16/hr....anyway, right there i thought i'd wait for a better opportunity. besides, i'm not one for cold weather. do you know that it snows in june in alberta? good luck! and keep warm.

Hey, it's beautiful here today. The sun is shining and it's -11 degrees Celsius (12 degrees Fahrenheit), with the wind it feels like -14 C... not so bad! The foot of snow we have is very pretty, until you have to drive on it.

I think what you are also missing as well is that Nursing Assistants are unionized staff just like LPNs and RNs. The union contract guarantees you overtime after a certain number of hours, paid vacation, benefits when eligble, and wage increases based on the number of hours worked.

So, in addition to deciding if you can live in a winter climate six months of the year, you need to decide if you want to be a union employee and follow the policies of your union.

hi guys... i'm also one of the hundreds of candidates who's applying for the same position. however, in all honesty, i'd really like to move my family to canada without hesitation. and with this move by capital health, it's an opportunity i wouldn't miss.

from all the threads i've read here and in other websites as well... i realized that we have to start from somewhere and at times, that somewhere is at the bottom. but if this is a chance for my family to have a better future then why not take the chance, right?

and yes, i do have my fears too... most importantly, what will happen to me if ever i fail the CRNE. that's why i've been roaming these websites to find out if there are other paths i could take if something as bad as that happens. still, i haven't got a concrete answer to alleviate my concern. i do have a stable job here in the PI in a respected tertiary hospital but our salary is not enough... and i'm hoping that someone here would be able to address my concern.

hi macfortis, at this point, the crne isn't your immediate concern. it is in fact the assessment by CARNA, whether they will approve you to take the crne or have you go through a SEC assessment or worst have you go back to school to take a few courses before you are deemed capable of writing the crne. likewise, verify with your agency or capital health what assistance they will give you in case of these possibilities. consider finances and your work permit status with this scenario. at any rate, be strong, determined and stay focused on your goal and that means study hard for the crne so you need not worry about what will happen if you fail it twice. good luck.

hi malaya... thanks for the encouraging words you've given.

well, i believe we've been informed that we do have to go through SEC assessment... that given, i hope that CARNA will give us the chance to take the CRNE.

it's just that i know that there's no turning back if this pushes through... there's nothing ( i mean no work) waiting for me to go back to here in the PI once i leave and i don't want my family to suffer the consequences of my actions... that's why i'm so anxious and diligent in finding out ways to be able to stay there in canada and be able to apply as PR or immigrant... legally, of course. i guess all i need now is a little luck and lots of prayers.
