Hello -
I was wondering if anyone had advice on what steps I should or should not take.
I am (was) a second semester nursing student. In my school you need to get a 77% to pass the class. We take Med/Surg and Pharmacology consecutively in 7 weeks.
Med/Surg is 2 days a week ... 5 hours of lecture.
Pharmacology is once a week for two hours.
I failed Pharmacology - 76.4%. Med Surge I failed by 3 points.
This is my issue -
Out of the 14 classes we had for Med/Surg my teacher was absent for over 10 classes. Two out of those 10 classes we did not have a teacher at all. The times we had a sub it was a teacher who usually teaches OB. Over 40 students failed this semester. We all signed a petition and spoke to the Dean and a decision was made we will be able to retake the final exam.
Well - we took the exam ... It was in the form of an essay. Mind you they never infomred us that before hand. Not that that should matter but I was shocked when I got the exam. I personally never took an essay exam and got a little freaked out. There was also a waiver attached to the exam stating all prior communication/complaints will be dropped. A couple students did not sign the waiver and just walked out. Others like me who failed Pharmacology took the exam because if you fail more than two classes you are out of the program. Last chance type deal.
Several people want to go to the board that accredits the program. Does anyone else have major issues with their nursing program? Does the school give you a test and then after the test have to review the questions with other instructors - come back and drop or give credit for multiple answers on certain questions? The final was also made by the assistant Dean who never once was a sub for our class.
I actually think I did well on the final but throughout this whole nightmare ... I lost the drive to even continue on.
Thanks for listening!
