  1. Hello - I was wondering if anyone had advice on what steps I should or should not take. I am (was) a second semester nursing student. In my school you need to get a 77% to pass the class. We take Med/Surg and Pharmacology consecutively in 7 weeks. Med/Surg is 2 days a week ... 5 hours of lecture. Pharmacology is once a week for two hours. I failed Pharmacology - 76.4%. Med Surge I failed by 3 points. This is my issue - Out of the 14 classes we had for Med/Surg my teacher was absent for over 10 classes. Two out of those 10 classes we did not have a teacher at all. The times we had a sub it was a teacher who usually teaches OB. Over 40 students failed this semester. We all signed a petition and spoke to the Dean and a decision was made we will be able to retake the final exam. Well - we took the exam ... It was in the form of an essay. Mind you they never infomred us that before hand. Not that that should matter but I was shocked when I got the exam. I personally never took an essay exam and got a little freaked out. There was also a waiver attached to the exam stating all prior communication/complaints will be dropped. A couple students did not sign the waiver and just walked out. Others like me who failed Pharmacology took the exam because if you fail more than two classes you are out of the program. Last chance type deal. Several people want to go to the board that accredits the program. Does anyone else have major issues with their nursing program? Does the school give you a test and then after the test have to review the questions with other instructors - come back and drop or give credit for multiple answers on certain questions? The final was also made by the assistant Dean who never once was a sub for our class. I actually think I did well on the final but throughout this whole nightmare ... I lost the drive to even continue on. Thanks for listening!

  3. I was hoping someone could help me with the following math issues I am having. I caculated out the problem - I just need to know if it is correct before I move on:crying2: The problem is BOLD. Thank you in advanced for your help. It is GREATLY appreciated!!! :bowingpur Order: Gentamicin 80 mg IV in 3 divided doses Child's weight: 28 pounds Safe dose range: 2-2.5 mg/kg every 8 hours Available: Gentamicin 10 mg/mL A) What is the safe does Range? I caculated the following: 12.73 * 2 = 25.46 mg 12.73 * 2.5 - 31-83 mg So the range would be 25.46mg - 31.83mg (I think) B) Is this does safe? 80mg X 3 = 26.7mg which calls between the safe dose range so Yes. C) If this dose is safe, how man mL would you give the child per dose? 80mg/10mg * 1ML = 8mL
  4. Thank you so much for your good advice! I will try it next time and hopefully it will work. It is nice to know there are other people out there as well with the same issues! :loveya:
  5. Today was my second day for Clinical at the hospital. I was so frustrated after being there for 5 hours and wanted to know if anyone had suggestions. We get to the unit and our instructor tells us we can only actually move a patient if someone from the hospital staff is there. My nurse had 8 patients and the PCT I think had more than that. Once we started I went to the Nurse and let her know I would be her student nurse for the day - is there anything I can help with? She told me to go ask the PCT. I went and asked the PCT and she basically had me follow her around. I kept telling her I could do it for her - I am here to help. (Not train!!!) I understand working short everyday you get a routine down and it's hard when you have students constantly asking you things but we needed to get confirmation from the PCT or Nurse to do anything so we needed to ask questions. When we were leaving one of the other students overheard a nurse saying to another nurse, "These stupid students, they can not do anything with out my help." Does she not remember what it was like to be a student? To never go in a room and ask someone if they need help? My nurse was only out of school for two years so it can't have been that long!! I need understanding and guidance on how to communicate more effectively with the PCT and Nurse so I can help them and not feel like a annoyance. Thank you in advanced!
  6. WAY TO GO!!! That is great. Congratulations!!! :yeah:
