Felony DUI and Lvn license

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Hello, I was wondering if anyone had gotten a felony dui while in nursing school, got it expunged after 3 years of probation  and was still able to take the NCLEX and receive a license ? I know I will be able to sit for the test but from what I’m reading, the issue is the boards actually giving you the license regardless if you pass. I called the boards and they said “ We review everything case by case so we can’t give you a definite answer. It would be up to you if you want to take the risk of going through nursing school or not “

Thanks for any advice

I have a felony and its not expunged. I have just recently been approved to take NCLEX . I will be on probation for 3 years and can only get a single state license. That may sound bad to some people but I am grateful for the opportunity after turning my life around! It was a longer process, just don't give up!

Did you have difficulty finding a job?

I'm facing the same thing and my biggest concern, as mine has been 10-years almost 11 for my felony DUI but my fear gets to me with being accepted for clinicals. Though I was told that the clinical agency tends to look at it as if the BON considers it then so do they and I've talked to the BON. I guess my question to you was what was your experience with getting accepted for clinicals? And thank you for sharing your experience

Hi I just got approved to take my NCLEX although I heard getting approved wouldn’t be the problem , they said if I pass the NCLEX maybe they’d give me my lisence but Im pretty sure they will give it to me maybe I just have to be on probation or something

I haven’t taken my NCLEX yet. I will cross that bridge when it comes. Testing in April!

I know someone who had a DUI and had it expunged and eventually was allowed to sit for NCLEX, but she had to plead her case and the outcome is different for everyone.

I have a felony for drug diversion. My license was suspended and was able to get it reinstated. I’m able to work for 3 large institutions in my state. Be honest is the best policy.

Thank you. And are you currently working RN ?

Yes working as a nurse in full capacity for both institutions.

I had an x-coworker (RN) that got a DUI while in Nursing School.  He sat for his license then passed the NCLEX, he was able to get a job with us but had to have an RN on duty during the first four hours of his shift.  He also had to keep a log with signatures to turn into the board.  This was for a whole year.

A felony dui? I have a misdemeanor DWI and I completed my nursing program and got approved for boards. Here's my advice... Be honest on your application, because they find it no matter what. I had to write a letter explaining what happened and provide court documents. I believe people generally want to help those who have changed their lives around. The board of nursing is more against crimes related to people..thefts, shootings, I believe anyway.

Hi Angel!

I am in my first semester of nursing school and I currently have a pending DUI conviction for a first offense. What advice do you have for me regarding applying for my license after I graduate and etc? And can you explain your experience a bit more regarding what had to do and how long you had to wait to get your license?

The official answer is it is better to ask for forgiveness than permission. Welcome to the most expensive poker game in the world. ? I think you may be aight. As long as you don't do it again ^
