What works for me is....
1.) Really listen in class
2.) Tape and play it back whenever I have time
3.) Study in a group of like-minded students (actually a group in this case is my friend Sonia and I)
4.) Have other things in your life. If you know you have to work so many hours a week or do other things you can't procrastinate as much. You simply don't have the time to waste.
5.) Lighten up. Its just school. Sure, nursing is a huge responsibility but just relax.......
As tough as nursing school is I made a point of taking some kind of fun physical activity class every semester. I took tap dancing, golf, fencing. These were new activities to me very phyiscal as opposed to all the mental stuff of nursing school and the golf was great to just be outdoors and soak in the beauty of being outdoors and it was relaxing.
Until then I thought golf was a dumb game. I can't remember why I took it since I thought that way but I really liked it. I never took tap and always wanted to, same with fencing. These were my way of keeping balance in my life.

Good suggestions Agnus, I've never tried Golf, but would like to someday, I wonder how many students play golf, I've heard it's relaxing. Thanks !:)

Those are great delirium ! I especially like #3 studying with like-minded students, that is important, even if it's just you and a friend. Actually those are all good suggestions, thanks !:)

Along the same lines, study or do assignments right after class while the material is fresh in your mind. It sure beats procrastinating but I know we are all prone to that sometimes!
Ashse, I think that is important too, to keep things "fresh" in your mind, good suggestion!:)
I totally agree with the relaxed approach. Since I came back to school -- 10 years after the first time around, I've had a much more laid back approach and done phenomenally well. Have to admit, though, that the closer I got to the nursing portion of my BSN, the more...um...emotional I became and classes did, indeed get harder for me.
After the jolting shock to my system of my 1st week last week , I just need to take a deep breath and chill.....

I've found that I do much better by not even using that word "stress". Remaining calm and easy going in class helps to absorb the material, for me at least it works.
I'm begining to wonder if stress is about "self-control", which I didn't see a lot of in one of my last classes. I noticed that the less emotional (trying not to use the "s" word) students stayed away from the more emotional students during the course and the calm students continued to do well.
Now the more emotional students were NOT out in the cold, the instructor offered to meet with anyone that was having trouble, she was more than willing to work with anyone who needed help.
I had an instructor in pre-req's ( a really smart guy) who said to "learn what you need to know in class" so you don't have to study so much !! It sounded crazy at the time but now I think he had something there !
Anyone else have any tips on this subject for fellow students ?
