My coworker (and friend, mother, grandmother) died this morning in a car crash, she fell asleep at the wheel after working a 12+ hour night shift.
I just wanted to tell other night nurses (that are prone to getting sleepy on the drive home) that it is NOT worth it, and I wanted to tell ALL nurses to hug your babies!
She will be greatly missed.

Please add me to the list of saying how sorry I am for the loss of your co-worker.
I worked night shift for 2 years and there are alot of mornings that I had to pull off of the side of the road to take a nap.
Please anyone, if you know of a co-worker who works nights, please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they travel home. And if you have a chance, call them just to make sure that they made it home okay. They may feel like you are being overprotective, but at least they know that you care.
This is exactly why I don't think hospitals should require nurses to work nights...many nurses...like me.....know that we just can't tolerate it....physically and mentally....and this kind of tragedy is exaclty why. So sorry to hear of this.......it really is a tragedy......hope you all get the emotional support you need to get past this.
