Feeling overwhelmed

Published

Hi everyone,

I am 25 years old with three kids and taking 4 classes per semester. This is my second semester and I'm taking Anatomy and Physiology I, working with cadavers, and I feel very overwhelmed. I have a GPA of 3.7 but I still don't feel confident. I feel lost in that class, I don't know if I'm overthinking it. Anyone else felt this way and did just fine?

My biggest suggestion is keep organized. Do NOT wait until the last minute for papers, projects, or to study for tests. College is MUCH faster than HS and if you aren't used to it yet, it can take you by surprise. You have to find time during your week that you can devote to studying. Often I end up studying when everyone else is asleep - and when I should be myself. These classes are often tough and have a LOT of info that you need to learn not just temp. memorize.

True. I think I add extra stress on myself by double checking everything to see if I have everything I can done for each class

Hi, that is great, that you find study buddy. It is very helpful. A&P class requires lot of memorizing. And understanding the concept. Logic thinking. Not only memorizing. But memorizing is huge part of it. But not one day cramming. If I can give you an advice from retrospective - every day, repeat and repeat same things you learnt from book. Then when you go work on the cadavers - try to relate. And try to remember who it looks. Cadaver structures are not like on the "picture". Every body has different strong muscles, veins and so on. It is individual, and all looks same color. So it helps if you know the theory from top of your head from book. And then try to remember what they show you on cadaver, or try to figure out what it could be. Teacher I had, would give tests that resembled nursing classes. It was not about plainly - tell me the layers of. Or name all muscles... or show me on picture which structure is... her tests were the ones you need to use the knowledge to figure out the answer. If this structure do that, this will happened... So you need both - memory and wits. Hope it helps and: Good luck!!!

You have quantifiable data that points to successful completion of the course. If you do not feel "confident" then that is on you. You are talking about a subjective scenario. I earned my BSN 10 years ago and would say I was "confident" I would work my hardest as a nurse to be successful.

I wish we worked on cadavers versus books. That's pretty amazing. I'm 32, this is my 5th semester and I have one kiddo, a small farm, work part time and commute about 100 miles a day to make all this work....it's hard but what's harder? The guilt of not reaching your potential or the struggle of making it work? You've got this!!

Aww, we should be friends! I'm taking A&P1, tx govt, philosophy, & a fine arts class this semester. I just found out that we're expecting child #3! Omg... I'm overwhelmed too. I'm questioning if I'll be able to get through this or not. :nailbiting:

Thank you, I have been studying like crazy! I felt pretty confident during my testí ½í¸€

We should be friends! I am just doing homework everyday, and not leaving things last minute. I am hoping I pass with an A! I wish you luck and three kids is not as hard as you think! If I can do it, you sure can too!

Thank you, I needed to hear that. I would feel worse knowing I quit!

Hey, sorry, I haven't gotten the hang of this website and it's not letting me reply to your messages until I have 15 topics posts! I understand exactly what you mean. We are barely on week 2 or 3 and we are on our third test for A&P. It's really hard. I am barely doing pre-algebra and wow I am better at science for sure!

I'm taking 4 classes this semester. First time as a mom. :dummy: I'm looking forward to the other responses. Based on what I've read here the main tip is using a planner to keep on track. I've been getting stressed out but hes teething and I'm trying to over prepare because I want straight As.

Theres books like a&p made incredibly easy and visual that may help. Theres also the coloring book on Amazon. I plan in buying that when I take A&P.

Writing in a journal everyday may help. Hope this helped. You can always PM me. I just turned 25

I am a mom of two, and took A&P I in a summer-mester (second go at it, first was 4 and a half year prior). My eldest was 2.5, and my youngest was 6 months old with terrible reflux, breastfed, and didn't sleep through the night. I spent the whole semeter, having already taken the class one, feeling overwhelmed and like I was going to fail. I made an A, and could have failed the last test and still had an A. Time management was key. Also keeping a really good planner of when things were due so I could focus one what I needed to get done that evening. Study wise I find note cards to be amazing. I found an app for android phones where you could make or search for pre made note cards, and look at them on your phone. I find this to be great and I could be studying note cards on my phone while my 2.5 year old played. You can do it! Just study hard, and focus on small goals instead of the whole class.

I bought a planner snd started filling it out when I got my silibi but now that everythings in full swing I forget about it

Maybe set an alarm on your phone, or get a wall calender? I know I'm a very visual learner so having a wall calender I saw all the time helped.
