I have a year of experience as a nurse, and was thinking of switching jobs. i actually like my job but not some of the recent changes so im not 'desperate' to find a new job just hopeful to find a better fit . i have applied to a couple jobs at area hospitals I wasn't holding my breath for an interview but i submitted an application yesterday and got a rejection letter today at the major hospital am i that unhireable that i get an immediate rejection letter? "blah blah blah after careful consideration we have decided to continue our search with others that more closely meet what were looking for" it wasn't a specialty floor it was a combination of medical surgical / intermediate care unit
While im not shocked I didn't get an interview getting immediately rejected has me feeling like there is no hope for me
Im kind of wondering do i just keep applying for other jobs at that facility or cross it off the list of possiblities?

Different unit managers look for different things :) Go for it :) You don't have anything to lose, do you? :)

OP, it's not you. It's still a game of who is BFFs.

Keep applying!
I worked in an adult ER and applied for two positions at a children's hospital. One was in the ER and the other was a med-surg unit. I had next to no intrest in working on the med-surg floor but was desparate to get my foot in the door.
The next day I got the rejection message from the med-surg floor and was devestated! I felt that I was more than qualified (I was) and would have been a great asset.
The system allows for two open appilcations at a time, though, so I let it go and applied for a position in the PICU. Got an interview and the rest is history.
Don't give up. It's possible that they already had the position filled before you even applied for it.

Was this a listing in the paper or a hospital web site for nursing positions?...It's very likely that those postitions are not even going to be filled, or are going to be filled internally. THis is one of the oldest HR tricks in the book. They always post multiple openings for nurses and if you look closely you can go back and see that many of the listings are the same ones over and over. They continually list them knowing that these are not going to be filled in the near future, if at all, however, if the unit stops advertising, they will have their budget cut....trust me, this is the truth. THe units just work short as the nurses leave and they don't fill the openings.
So, maybe this opening didn't really exist...don't take this personally is what I am trying to say!

I got the same verbiage back almost instantly for a job that listed NO requirements other than a nursing license. That bummed me out because I had spent a LOT more time applying than they did rejecting me! But I'm grateful that they made a quick decision, at least; back in my previous life, I applied for a lot of jobs and never heard anything back, or else it was weeks and weeks.

I know what you are oging through. I have given up on applying for hospital jobs for the time being. I am waiting to get my bachelors degree (I have my ADN).
I currently work on-call in LTC. I have been there a year now and nothing. I interviewed at a SNF yesterday. Gave letters of recommendation and a list of references. I have yet to hear back from them. I am about ready to give up. I don't know about you but it is a huge blow to my confidence.

OMG, Ain't that the truth. I am currently employed but I have been applying for jobs inhouse and at other facilities for 6 months so far & I didn't get 1 single call.

hr may have hundreds of applications for that one job, and may have decided already that it's going to a new grad who was a tech on their unit, or to the experienced nurse who has decided that their icu isn't her thing . . . . i thought it was nice that you got a rejection letter to at least let you know not to keep hoping for that job.

that unit may also be gradually transitioning to another kind of care-- e.g., instituting telemetry or becoming a dedicated stroke unit-- and hoping for someone with those skills already in place to assist in the transition. you never know. of course keep looking. it is not you.
I know, this is one of the things that gets my goat....a lot of the, let's call them "uninformed" nursing students who keep posting about all of the "job openings" they see in their areas and how they just know they will have a job waiting for them because they see these on all of the web sites and in the papers...just don't realize that these postings are not real...there was a recent post in one of the threads about the number of listings for jobs in Hiawai....unfortunately there haven't been true openings there in about 10 years. It's very unfair that these things are allowed to be published and get peoples hopes up.
