Feel like I'm gonna

VOMIT!!!!!!

I just registered for my first nursing exam. Transition to the professional RN. Did the practice exams. Got a 52% on A and a 72% on B.

Just guess the fear of the unknown.

Registered today but when I checked excelsior not says I cannot schedule my exam until 5/5 at the earliest. Don't know what is up with that.

Not really asking of looking for any validation, just need to express some built up nervousness.

I post it here since others can probably relate to what I am feeling/experiencing.

Excelsior thing. Currently Georgia requires a preceptorship for EC grads who weren't LPNs or whose LPN education doesn't meet certain criteria, or LPNs who have not been working in acute care.

Oh I see. I know each state has their own BON and all that, but they should really come up with a standardized licensing for RNs nationwide, kind of like National registry.

We all take the same NCLEX, but each board decides who is eligible to take it under their approval. There is a nursing licensure compact that grants multi-state licenses, but not all states participate. I think there are about 25 states that are part of the compact, and having a multi-state license allows people to work in member states. Nurse Licensure Compact | NCSBN

Gotcha. One other thing I was thinking about since I am coming to the end of the Theory tests. My first year at excelsior ends 9/22. If I am done the FCCA and just have the CPNE to do, do i still have to pay the yearly fee?

The current guidance is if you are going to have to wait more than 5 months until your CPNE at the due date of your annual fee, they will defer it (push it back). So yeah, if you're done with your FCCA and your CPNE application is accepted by 9/22, you shouldn't have to pay that annual fee. You can call and discuss it with an advisor when it comes up, I'm sure they'll help you get that fixed.

It was back when Georgia was starting to implement preceptorships for EC grads, but Ms. BSNbeDONE met the requirements for licensure without a preceptorship. After NCLEX, the BON was dragging its feet in issuing her license, without good reasons, so she went to the BON in Macon and said she was staying until she had her license. And she left with it that day. :D At least, that's how I remember it!

Close enough.:D It was actually before I took the NCLEX. They would not approve my application unless I agreed to needing 700 hours of preceptorship after passing the NCLEX. Mind you, I had been working hard on ned-surg units for a solid 7 years prior to even applying to EC, and that didn't even include the years that I had been doing acute care should going home health, nursing homes, etc. What I submitted was 10,000 hours of acute care experience.

But, I was told that was not acceptable because it didn't reflect 1700 hours within the immediate 3 years prior to enrollment. (Believing that the 10K was enough, I had only submitted hours from my primary employers, which was less than 1700 for the immediate 3 years because of being frequently cancelled during that whole economic downfall thing).

So, I had to contact the agencies that I had worked for during that time as well, and submit those hours (a total of 2200 hours).

As my luck would have it, the BON miscounted my hours! I was floored when that little girl at the BON still insisted that I do 350 hours of preceptorship! I was not about to do 30 minutes, let alone 350 hours! I may work for crumbs, but working for free is not what I do.:smokin:

So, I packed a lunch and a couple of magazines and I traveled down to Macon, prepared to sit there for as long as it took, and even offered to have the news media to come and help them calculate these darn hours. It was hilarious! The little girl came out to talk with me in the lobby with security instead of meeting in her office...go figure. Lol!

Had I accepted what they were telling me, a provisional (temporary) license would have been issued the moment I passed the NCLEX, with no hope of getting that mess straightened out!

By the time I left, we had reached an understanding, NO PRECEPTORSHIP HOURS, and I said that I would be more than happy to come back to help clear up any future misunderstandings because, you know, I wanted to be as helpful as I possibly could.

Aha! Thanks for straightening that out. :) You know, I was confusing part of your story with a girl I worked with - she had been working in an ER/Urgent Care for years as an LPN, they issued her the ATT without insisting on a preceptorship, she tested ... passed ... and waited ... and waited ... she finally had to call them, and suddenly her license was issued. Heh.

So they basically tried to bully you and when they realized that they were wrong just went ahead and gave you you're license. I hope they at least apologized!
