I have wanted to be a nurse since 16. After being denied admission to one one school, I was advised that I should get a degree in another area, b/c I would be a "shoe-in" for a 2nd degree program. No luck there either, still applying to schools, working as a CNA. I am now 24, and ironically enough the thing that bothers me the most is that I keep thinking I won't get accepted before my eggs dry up. I want to be a nurse before I have kids so I can provide for them. My 41 year old cousin just gave birth to baby #3 w/o assistance of fertility drugs, which offered me a ray of hope. Does anyone else worry about thier biological clock as much as their admission satus? At what point do you give up?

Yes I totally feel the clock ticking! I was married last summer and we are basically waiting for the acceptance letter to be finally awarded so we can plan. My husband is 30 and I am 26, we have been wanting to start for quite some time but I feel that it would lead to me having to choose between my family and my dream and I am not ready to do that. It is a really hard choice for us to make since we waited 7 years to get married in the first place.

My biological clock only works for puppies and kitties :) I told my husband I NEEDED a dog by 35 or I'd die. We've got 2 cats already :)

lol
but really, not too funny because i totally understand! i graduate in december but want to go on for my bachelor's and eventually fnp or cns, but i also want more children and my biological clock is definitely ticking at 36yrs old! my only child is 17 and just within the last few years decided to have more children. i'm too young for empty nest syndrome and have lots of years of love for another child left in me. so i am conflicted whether i will go ahead and invest 2 more years of school right away or start having babies first. probably the latter then go back to school.
you have plenty of years left to both go to nursing school and have children. i hope you are able to get admission into nursing school soon!

YES! And all the babies being born around me doesn't help either.

Seriously, most of my friends are having children right now or planning them and it is so hard! It's like I am 26 and just ready to start my life as an adult and bring children into the world but NOOO ... someone else gets to decide when I can! Not to mention that I am married and have been with my husband for going on 8 years!
So frustrating!
... Sorry I tend to be a really cynical person sometimes.

I feel exactly the same way! I am very conflicted as to whether or not I should just have a baby and let the rest fall into place.

Uggh, I too feel like I'm going to be too old by the time I'm done with everything. I am applying for fall acceptance which means I would graduate in December '09, then start working while taking RN to BSN courses. I would like to eventually get into a CRNA program which is another rigorous 2 years in addition to the 2-3 years critical care experience they require for admission. I'm 29 and my fiance is making me wait until I'm almost finished with my ADN program before we get married. He doesn't want me to have to stress about planning a wedding and nursing school at the same time. It's like when am I going to have time for kids? So frustrating!

I was confused as to what to do as well but I decided that I'm not going to let getting into a program put my life on hold. I am 28 now and have 1 child already. My daughter is going to be 3 in October. I don't want my kids to be too far apart in age so we are going to be trying again for another baby within the next couple of months whether or not I get accepted into a program by then. I too want to go on to become a FNP so I know I'm gonna be in school for another 4 years but I can handle that.

Just be careful. I had a son, and wanted another not too far apart. I thought if I had another while still doing generals it would be fine. I got pregnant...found out at 6 months it was TWINS...and had a very complicated pregnancy. Be prepared for anything if you decide you don't want to wait.
That said....I entered the nursing program at the originally designated time...with a 3 year old and twin 1 year olds. I graduated on time and have been an RN now since last July. It CAN be done...it's just HARD work. Good luck to you either way!

Omg, I'm not alone on this one. Im turning 24 this year...I know that's young but, I worry about when will I have time to have kids. I don't even have a serious boyfriend yet... There is a lot off pressure from my family and a majority of people I know are already "in the family way". I'm hounded about it at every holiday by my family my bro and sis have already completed their families and all eyes are on me and nobody wants to hear about my NET or HESI scores.
If i start NS this fall I'll be 26 when I finish with a ASN or a BSN, then I want to get my MSN (1-2years experience + 2 years of school). I guess I can wait until my 30's my mom had me when she was 31 and I'm her best child. LOL! Maybe, I'll meet my hubby to be somewhere along the way...
