Feeding tube schedule?

Hi, I am working on a case study, and I have no idea how to develop a feeding schedule without knowing the fluid/nutrient requirements. Any help will be greatly appreciated! The question reads: A 24 year old female patient was admitted to the hospital with multiple fractures when she fell from a cliff while hiking. She had been in the hospital for 7 days and has no appetite. She is in traction and is immobile. The dietitian and the MD have determined that a nasoduodenal tube be placed before her nutritional status deteriorates further. She has lost 8 pounds.The physician's orders specify that the feeding should be given continuously over 18 hours. Develop a tube feeding schedule.

This homework is part of your nursing education that you need to work on in order to complete your program. You will not find RNs on this forum who are willing to just do your homework for you.

I suggest that you repost in the Student forum, where other students might point you in a direction of sources you may find helpful. Good luck.

I am sorry if posting my question offended you. That was not my intent. I found allnurses.com while researching for the case studies. I am not looking for someone to do my homework. I am just asking for help in finding the answer. The only way we have been taught to develop a feeding schedule is by taking the ordered nutrient and fluid requirements and the patients weight to figure the ml/hr to run the feeding. I am new to this site and thought the nurses could better help me than other confused students. :-) Again, sorry to have offended.

This homework is part of your nursing education that you need to work on in order to complete your program. You will not find RNs on this forum who are willing to just do your homework for you.

Instead of snapping at her, why don't you give her a little "start, pointing her to a web site that might offer some help"....this is like eating your young.

I hope you are not a preceptor.

I encourage the OP to look further into the question, reread it, Use the knowledge you have thus far, call a fellow student to see if maybe you are over looking something

No ill will intended at all. Most students are able to research on their own and do not post homework questions. However you might set up an appointment then with your college librarian. You will have to find a way to do so much research on your own in order to succeed that it is a good idea to learn how to locate appropriate resources. Your college librarian will welcome the opportunity to teach you how to do this. Please do not assume other students are without means. Allnurses has a section for students just for this purpose, where you can help each other with school. I would also suggest a study group of fellow college students if you are in need.

Many here however, do not mind reviewing work already near completion as "another set of eyes". :up: (hint).

Thanks annacnatorn. I did post the question to the student board. I have read the question so many times that I could probably quote it, but I can't figure out what I am missing. Thanks for the encouragement!

I'm with 2ndwind and while you might be an exceptional CNA, you are passing judgement on a topic, I believe, you have not enough knowledge of. Perhaps the OP is sincere, but the post most certainly follows the pattern: just signed up, no pro, no info on research or work done by the OP, just a short post which shows the assignment and a lame excuse why the OP cannot do it. Do you really think the OP's instructor is incompetent?

People if you don't want to help this girl answer her question then MOVE ON!! :uhoh3: No one is forcing you to answer this question for her so instead of berating her for posting it on a PUBLIC FORUM why don't you just not respond to it and get on with your life.
