hello and first of all, best wishes to all of you for your upcoming exam.
I am doing the following for NCLEX. Please give your feedback on what else I could do, any strategies, tips, advice are welcome. What should the score be on these practice tests? I am scoring low 60s on kaplan and high 60s on saunders CD tests. I'd like atleast an increment of 10% on both before the exam, in about 15 days. How do I accomplish it.
Kaplan-q bank(1000q), content review, 7-test cd.
Saunders, comprehensive for content and CD for the test.
Which other books/review materials could I possibly look at.
How do I specifically practice priority questions.
Thankyou.

Hi,
I am repeating the Nclex in Sept. I took it in July and took all 265 and got near passing on all areas so I can help with what I have learnt. I did Kaplan last time, questions were good, but Rationales were not and this time I see that rationales are very imp. I am doing Saunders comp. about 200 questions a day... Read rationales to both correct and incorrect. Suzanne on this board is tons of help, she swars by the Saunders Comp. doing about 4,000 questions or so before the test and rationales. I also ordered the Mosy CAT... 39.99 $ online and it gives you percentage of passing the percentageof difficulty of questions you are answering. Saunders I think is really the best, but I just ordered the Mosby too. I like it becasue it will shut off like the NCLEX when it decided if you were passing... Just google Mosby CAT and it will come up. Study Herbal meds, priortizing, delegating, and disaster. I have some articles that people on here sent me. If you like I can email them to you, or if you have any other questions. Hope this helps....
PM and I will send you my email if you have any questions or would like the article
hi there,
Thanx for your input. After reading your post I realised I haven't been emphasizing any rationales in my studying. Will do so from now on.
I'll pm you for the articles. Let me know if I can help you in any way.
I am doing 200 q a day as well, primarily from saunders. Wondering if I should buy mosbys with 15 days to go. I still have a good portion of saunders to review. Let me know how you feel abt mosbys CAT in a couple days.
Study hard!! I pray that we all pass (with 75 q-would be nice, plz God).

Hello,
I too am repeating the NCLEX-RN in October (just found out I failed). I am also using Saunders Comprehensive Review (3rd edition) and also I plan on purchasing the Mosby-CAT on line but I just don't know which one. I googled it and there's few Mosby-CAT but I don't know which one you guys are using. Do you mind guiding me to the right one. I kinda like the idea that you said it acts like the real NCLEX because it shuts off like the NCLEX. Also, with the Saunders, ow are you guys utilizing it? Do you read the book from cover to cover ot you mostly use the accompanying CD? If the CD, which mode are you guys using (study, quiz or exam mode)? I'm sorry if I have too many questions, I'm really frustrated and would like to succeed the next time I take it. Do you guys mind sending me those articles as well? Thank you so very much......

You should not be reading Saunders cover to cover. You are wasting time that you need to use for questions if you are doing that. You need to focus on doing questions, and more questions, and more questions. Plus reviewing the rationales behind each answer. Then if you are having difficulties with a certain topic, then use the Saunders as the review book.
You have just finished school, you should know most of the basic information, learning how to answer the questions in the NCLEX format is where you need to practice with.
hi suzanne,
thankyou for your input. I'll focus on doing more questions now. My problem is, like in school, if I don't memorize the material I feel unprepared.
Also, I am doing Saunders right now, almost done. Which other material do you recommend I use (primarily for questions).
thanx
How much time are you spending reviewing the rationales of each and every answer, both the correct as well as the incorrect? This is as important as doing the questions, perhaps even more so................
The biggest problem with memorizing is that you forget it way to soon...........you must learn the material...........and then it stays with you forever. :wink2:

Thanks, Suzanne!
I am doing what you suggest....answering more questions..I actually go to the exam mode with about 198 questions per system/category...I just finished cardiovascualr system and I actually did pretty good. You are right if I read the book cover to cover, it'll take more time preparing. So I will focus more on answering questions and reading the rationale behind it. I'll keep you posted.

Glad to hear that reading cover to cover is not a must. I started doing those questions. Quiz mode first. Starting out at 70% and above. Is this a decent starting point or should I be higher than that already?
That is a good start.............did you receive the two sets of articles that I sent you?

I originally bought the nclex-rn review by Stein ...i found the book ok but the cd to be a little confusing because the rationales were not always complete or in some cases were quite confusing. Bought the Saunders after reading posts on this site...I really find this much more helpful. I have been focusing on the practice questions and also reviewing in the book the subjects that i know are my weaknesses. Good luck to all!!!
Hi, Suzanne
Yes, I received the article you sent me on ABG interpretation and Herbal....I haven't really looked them up yet but I'd like to thank you for sending them. Please keep sending me more articles that you think will help in preparation. As always your help is much appreciated. I'll keep you posted on my progress. Take care :)
