FCCJ Summer 2010 hopefuls...

U.S.A. Florida

Is it too early to start a thread like this? LOL

I'll be finishing up my pre-requisites this fall, and then applying in the spring for the Summer 2010 session. I still need to study for the NAT and actually take the exam and take a CPR course. I'm considering getting my CNA and trying to find work in healthcare to get my foot in the door.

I am so nervous about the whole process, nervous about whether I should try to work and go to school, and especially nervous if this is something I can handle. I am afraid of all the responsibility.

Anyone else planning for next Summer? What is your process looking like, what are your thoughts/feelings?

Ah. That explains it. Thanks again for replying. For some reason I had it in my head that even though you were already in the program, you'd also just been accepted for this Fall. I guess I should have thought that one through a bit more. :)

the reason you are getting too many points for the NAT score is because either you are adding in spelling and vocational or you are doing acidemic apptitude 2 times. It gives you 3 scores in each area, math, verbal, and non verbal then it combines ALL THREE into one score. If you are doing all three plus the total, you will exceed 120. Hope this helps but yeah, then multiply by .64 and that is the amount of points you get!

Thanks for the feedback. As it turns out, using the FSCJ formula, 120 is not the maximum score on the NAT.

The raw score is simply the number of questions you got right. As such, since there are 90 questions on Academic Aptitude, 40 questions on Reading Comprehension and 90 questions on Natural Sciences, the maximum raw scores for AA, RC and NS respectively are 90, 40 and 90. That gives a maximum raw score of 220 points. If you multiply that by .64 to get your FSCJ point total, you get 140.8, which would be the "points" from a perfect NAT raw score.

I will be applying to the summer 2010 semester. I am so excited and nervous. Coming online and reading the post make me become so anxious sometimes. I hope that I will be accepted on my first try I only have 3 more classes to take. Has anyone ever seen a rejection letter. What does it state? (what your rank was, how many people applied) Can you roll your application over to the next semester if you don't become chosen?

wow nice job on the NAT. You crushed it, you will be there for summer for sure!

If you get 190 points u should get in. If anything less than you wont know for sure until then. Yes you can apply each semester if you get declined.

Fall had over 600 applicants, of that 168 got seats, 24 of those being N/W. The cutoff was 190.72

For those of you with questions about how to calculate point totals if you get an application packet, the cover sheet goes over in detail about how to do it. You can also do a thread search for this information. You can get a max of 120 on the NAT and 120 from your prereqs, then you can get extra points for having medical experience.

Also, the cutoff points represent the lowest amount of point that were admitted into the program. So if they get a lot of applicants with over 200 points the cutoff will go higher.

Hope this helps some.

Thanks for the info Stephanie.

so i finish my last pre reqs spring 2010 i will be taking a&pII human and growth develpoment and micro...when should i apply to the nursing program and would you guys advise me finishing all my pre reqs before i apply

thanks in advance for any help

I think that you should probably apply after you finish those classes, so apply in the summer to start in the fall. I think that you probably won't have enough points to be competitive if you don't finish those 3 classes first, but add it up and see.

It's really annoying, I know, but I've had to wait an extra semester for that exact reason.

You have to have A&P complete before you even apply. You can be enrolled in Micro when you apply, but you have to have it completed bfore you start the program. It sounds like you are going to have to wait until the Summer to apply for the Fall.

thanks you all for the help!!!

I had said that I needed to study for the NAT, but I haven't really had the time at all. I hope the poster who said you can't really "study" for it is right. I think I need to take the NAT by Oct 15, that way it will give me time (have to wait 90 days I believe) to retake if necessary. I am so nervous about it. When I was younger, I was so good at test taking, I would just breeze through it. Now I feel like my brain is mush LOL.

Right now I am also planning on applying at UNF, so I'll be taking the TEAS as well - that one I am definitely studying for as much as I can. I only get one shot at the TEAS for this application period.

So far my classes this semester are going well. I love Micro, I think I will be getting an A if I don't slack off. Psych and Socio, I should be getting A's, and I don't start my Humanities until end of October. That's the rest of my pre-req's! :)
