Hi everyone! I joined here before my first semester of college. I was goign to FSU as a pre-nursing student but I live in Jacksonville.
Long story short, I was VERY stressed my first semester, not just because of school but because of being away from my family. My dad and my uncle both became critically ill at the same time and it was very stressful for me to be away from my family during this time. Naturally, my grades suffered, and I ended up moving home and going to FCCJ to eliminate that stress from my life.
Anyway, I've gotten my act together and am making good grades now. However, I haven't been taking pre-reqs because I changed my mind about nursing for a while. I'm reconsidering it now, especially since FCCJ has a BSN program.
I was wondering about the point system I know it is 120 from grades, 120 from NAT and 20 from experience... but what grades are counted? All of them, or just a few? I'm going to talk to a counselor at the school soon, but they are closed for Spring Break and I want to know now lol. Also, do they allow you to retake classes or not? I don't think I will have to but just in case, I would like that information. Thanks so much!

Does this include AP1, AP2, Chemistry, and which other?
I got a C in AP1...do you think it would be best for me to retake it?
The points system is based off of your pre-reqs (4 of them...well chemistry is a pre-req but does not count as far as points) and your general ed classes...basically anything you need to take for the program but do not have to be in the program to do them..http://fccj.edu/prospective/programs/data07_08/2149.html
This website explains is a lil better...FCCJ's BSN program is not like a traditional university's...you have to be an RN first...you can't just get your A.A. and then get your BSN...though little information is known about it yet...
I probably would just go in and see a counselor...As long as you make good grades on all your other things and your NAT scores are kinda up there, it should make up for the few points you lost. I would not worry too much about it right now and would not worry about retaking it...I got a "C" in my math class that is required...and I got in...
three main focuses are natural science, overall aptitude, and reading comprehension. you take the three raw scores from those areas and multiply that total by .64...also some tid bits i found out. they take your highest grade, if youve taken a course multiple times or different courses under the same idea (like philosophy or humanities would be under the same idea).
Its somewhat competitive to get into FCCJ's Nursing program. You can't apply unless you've completed the full list of pre-req's EXCEPT if you've only got Microbiology left and you'll be able to get it done before you start FCCJ's Nursing program. I did that but was missing the points from not taking Micro. They sent me a letter telling me that I scored xxx pts and that the last person to be accepted was at xxx pts. Basically, taking Micro and getting a B would've made the difference, and then I started sweating it about being able to get in even after I finished Micro, since the threshold varies every trimester based on who else is applying. In general, there were like 250 applicants and they could only accept 150 (in Fall '06), just so ya get the get the picture of how much competition there was/is. I doubt that they've expanded the amount of students they can take -- if anything, they might have shrunk it, since I know they'll be scrambling to find instructors for their new BSN program. Its difficult to find those charitable and/or foolhardy souls w/ the right attitude and aptitude to teach when teaching doesn't pay as much as working at a hospital, home health, or a doctor's office.
So I was worried about not being able to make it into the program and I had applied at another (private) school that had just opened a nursing program -- Kei$er College in Jax. Much much more expensive and I didn't feel that it was nearly as set up as FCCJ was, but I wanted a back-up plan. I was willing to pay the high tuition of Keiser, but I was accepted into FCCJ -- the difference of taking Micro and getting a C or B in it, plus retaking an English Lit class that Keiser wasn't happy w/ made the difference from my previous application into the FCCJ program. There was no prob w/ re-taking a class. Maybe its a prob if you have a scholarship or Financial Aid, but not when you're paying out of pocket.

When you mention a bonus for healthcare...do they only consider certain jobs? I work for a healthcare insurance company but deal with some claims which has allowed me to learn a few extra medical related things...
Thanks!
