how are you guys coming along with all the independent study given to us?

i've mainly been concentrating on the dosage calculation portion. i haven't even taken out the med term book out of its wrapping... i figured it would be better to focus on my weakness first. i'll probably take a look at what med term stuff we have to do tonight.

i really have no problem memorizing terms, but math just kills me. :trout:

I'm in section 3 of the dosage calc, not too bad at all, just that memorizing those new abbre and converting apothecary is very challenging. Have anyone opened up reading other texts beside these two yet?

Hey all. I'm almost done with chapter 3 of med terms. It's SO interesting. I'm loving it. It was a bit challenging at first, but now it totally makes sense!

I haven't looked at dosage calc, though. I figured I should save that for next week, so that way on the first day, it will still be fresh in my mind (hopefully....)

So, has anyone gotten an email from the nursing tutor? I haven't gotten anything, but I thought we were supposed to get something for that EVOLVE thing for the med terms. I wanted to use the online thing to take some quizzes and practice last night, but it says you need a user name and password. Then I looked back at the packet we got, and it said that we would get an email in about a week.

So, are you all prepared? Have you gotten your school supplies and what-not? I went when it was still tax free and got notebooks, pens, pencils, binders, a backpack....all that good stuff. :lol2: I also got a paid of nursing shoes and a watch (I don't want to use my nice one for clinicals.)

Well, I hope everyone else is doing well.

No, I haven't received any email from the tutor either. Um...you smart purchased those stuff during the tax free day. I bought my two pairs of shoes in the mall for cheap. They were on sale, buy one get one half off, plus those prices already reduced prior to the discounts, sweet. Speaking of that I also need a watch

uh oh!

i highly, highly advise you start on that ASAP! especially if you're horrible at math like me! i've been pacing myself since last week, doing about up to 10 pages of the stuff every night. it's a LOT of material to cover. i have it all planned out in my handy little planner to where by the time we have the dosage calc class on the 27th, i'll still have chapter 4 and 7 fresh in my mind.

there's a lot more material to study in regards to dosage calc than med term. dosage has been stressing me out!

haven't gotten any school supplies yet... i'm waiting for the first week of school to see what kinda stuff i'll really need... like do i REALLY need a rolling backpack? hahaha.

i'm also still doing research on the best type of shoes... so far i'm considering nursemates, i think that's what they're called.

Nurse Mates suck. A good pair of all white tennis shoes-Nike shox, I switched to K-swiss.

Don't sweat the doasge calc, do the practive test in your packet and understand how you did it and you'll do fine.

ha i figured that the stuff in the packet was all we needed to know... but i want a super solid foundation so i'm doing all the work...

btw, why do nurse mates suck? my feet are wide and their shoes come in wide sizes.

i can't wear shox bc they don't come in wide...

what kind of k-swiss shoes do you have?

I have to agree about the nursemates. Every pair I tried on, I hated. But I guess its just a preference thing. I have a pair of white nike airs. They're kind of bulky but they are so comfy. My feet are wide too. I think I paid $50 at famous footwear or rackroom. I wish I would of seen the shox, I love those shoes...

The dosage calc isn't too bad. Just know the conversion stuff and ratio & proportion. The med term isn't too bad either, just a lot of terms they can test you on.

I don't have a rolling back pack. (I'm clumsy & I'm afraid I'd be running it into people). But a lot of people do and they seem to like it. My back definitely hurts after lugging the concepts book around.

Good luck guys on your first semester!!!!!! It goes by superquick!

Specializes in gyn/ plastic surgery/ gen pract. mabey?.

I ended up with a pair of nurse mates.. they were like 50 bucks they felt pretty good... but then again I just live in flip flps, so any shoe is kinda odd to me. I got an email from Durant- about a volunteer opportunity did anyone else get this email?

yeah, i live in flip flops too! haha. i hate shoes and socks.

i got that email from durant. "Required voluteer experience" that strikes me as amusing because they are contradictory words...

anyway, how are you doing with all of the work? i think i am gonna take the night off from studying...

What kind of volunteer opportunity are you talking about? No, I didn't get no email. Um...I purchased a pair of Sketcher and a pair of New Balance. I'll be using sketcher for my clinical, feel comfortable, wide on the tip and a new balance for my daily exercise.
