just called an adviser at ec about the fcca. she said they just had a meeting with the dean yesterday and were told that the computerized version won't be ready now until summer, probably sometime in july. whew! once you take your last nursing theory exam, you'll get an email telling you you're eligible and once you tell them your fcca "ready" date, you'll get your packet and have 10 days to complete. she also told me that the northern and midwest regions are running about 4 months out for cpne dates if you want to accept cancellations, 7 months for specific dates. just a heads up; i know i feel better now!

LOL. I'm not surprised. It keeps getting bumped back. I was so glad that I didn't have to do the computerized version. I'm not sure how that would work, anyway.

Any time a person has the opportunity to take the easier version of a requirement, it is best to do so! As time goes on, things have a tendency to get more difficult or more inconvenient in some manner.

Hi,

I haven't looked into much about the FCCA, but I have one exam left and then I am on to it. What does the FCCA entail and is there a fee for it?

Thank you,

Traci

i'm sure you'll get a pass on this!

have you started preparing for the cpne? i am a little lost on how to start preparing. i printed the cpne study guide and will start reading tonight. i ordered the flash/audio cards. i will work on the health records tomorrow and background check.

i am worried about the care plans and documentation. i am even worried about taking the manual bp. i know how to do it but still nervous specially doing it on pedi pt.

any advice ec grads? am i in the right track?

boozie, where are you testing and how long do you think you need to prepare?

thanks,

angel

angel-i know exactly what you mean! i'm trying not to let myself get too far ahead, but man it's a lot of info! are you planning on going to a workshop? i'm going to tina's in pa the first week of june. she's got 8 weeks of care plan lessons with it. there's also sherri taylor's in atlanta, i've heard a lot about her care plan stuff being online now too. and i've been getting on the epn. and look at this website, it has some resources: http://cpnex.blogspot.com/ i have the flashcards and i ordered the skills kit. got lab stations set up in my office and started playing with them the last couple of days. i think this is gonna be one of those things i just pick a spot and start memorizing. it's all gotta be in there, so i'm not sure it matters which direction i start in! the labs scare me first, since that's done on day one, so that's where i'm gonna be for a few days. hoping to test late july/early august, but with this much info, i may be ready by december! good luck--we can do this!!!!

thanks jules! i don't know which workshop to attend yet. i will look for a workshop when i have my cpne date.

getting ready for this beast is very overwhelming. i read section i,ii, and iii in the study guide. section iv is a monster i haven't even touched it. i received the flash/audio cards today and i am listening to the cd now as i type. i watched rob's videos last night.

so hopefully i am in the right track. good luck to you jules. i know we will defeat this beast! can't wait to be agldragonrn :)

Getting started was probably the most overwhelming thing for me! I spent hours freaking out about how 'other people' prepared. Then I spent a good 3 weeks wasting time on workshop options. None of them were scheduled conveniently and living in Michigan, the locations all SUCKED. So, I bit the bullet and opted out of a workshop. I did Excelsior's Documentation and Skills online conferences which were quite helpful.

I did Sherri Taylor's online workshop. She had awesome videos for the lab, but ended up confusing the crap out of me with care plans. In the end, not worth the $150 I paid. (my opinion!)

Last but not least, I had Rob's DVD's and I never watched them through all the way...........and that's all I'll say about that!

I put together my own binder and divided it according to how I broke down the study guide. I recommend buying sheet protectors and dry erase markers. You can reuse forms for the labs/care plans.

I saved mnemonics for last and made my own. There's no shortcut when it comes to memorizing the critical elements.

I seemed to get hyper-fixated on different things each day. Some days it was the paperwork, one day I spent a good 12 hours figuring out IV drip - something I had done in real life before! And the wound, oh my god the wound! I would practice packing that thing 20+ almost every day. And you know what, in the end, it didn't matter. The supplies used at my site were so different than what I practiced with.

Just make sure you don't leave any stones unturned when preparing for the CPNE! Use that study guide as your bible and start setting up conference calls with faculty - NOW!
