Favorite Clinical Rotation

Published

I am a pre nursing student, but just out of curiosity , for all of the nursing students what was your favorite clinical in your program? OB, Psych, ect .. thank you in advance!

Specializes in LAD.

L & D all the way:)

Specializes in Acute Rehab, Neuro/Trauma, Dialysis.

I did my preceptorship in critical care and loved it! :)

Specializes in Hospitalist Medicine.

So far, I've had 1 long term care, 2 med surg and 1 L&D rotation. I loved surgical and, surprisingly, I really loved L&D. Before taking maternity/OB, I had zero interest in L&D. I really liked it. Keep your options open, because you never know what you'll like once you actually do it.

I really am looking forward to ER/ICU. I hope I like it as much as I think I will!

I completed my preceptorship in the ER and loved it, plus no ADL's or care plans...........

I'm not a student anymore, but maybe I'll answer anyway :)

I think there were several equally-interesting rotations. Couldn't choose just one.

For what it's worth, the one rotation I absolutely hated was med-surg. Too many tubes and wires and "stuff" connected to my patients, it was a little scary, intimidating.

So where did I start my first nursing job? Not only IN med-surg, but on the very same unit I did my clinical rotation! How's that for destiny? ;)

And I loved that unit. NOT the politics, or the staff-to-patient ratio (they're nearly universally bad), not the reasons that eventually left me wanting to leave. I loved the nearly endless variety of patients and procedures....we did mostly surgical patients and I learned something ALL the time. For years! And, frankly, I was pretty good at it. Never thought I'd go there because in school I was always unsure of myself, and once I started there after graduation....I was GOOD at it after all!

The moral of the story is, your favorite rotation might not be your best after-school placement, and your least-favorite rotation just might be your "niche" :D
