Hi! My school doesn't require us to purchase a care plan book, but I was wondering what everyone's favorite is so I could buy one!
Thanks!

favorite care plan book? - The one with all the answers!
Seriously though, I do like the CP books by Ulriche and Canale. not too many careplans, but enough to get you through the process.

We had to buy Gulanick, and I didn't like it because it doesn't list every nursing diagnosis individually - about 2/3 are only listed under specific medical diagnoses, and of course not every pt with a medical dx has the same presentation. I still use it, but I went out and got the Ackley book too off of Daytonite's recommendation. There's a section where you can look up S/S and procedures and it has suggested nursing dx cross-referenced - I love that part. Plus it has a full list of EBP-based interventions for every nursing Dx, not just a select 100 or so. The Gulanick book is an easier read though, so I use both.

That's the only reaon I didn't buy the Ackley book because we didn't really have a care plan class so no one explained how to use the books. We were just told to read to intro. Gulanick was an easier read so I just stuck with that.
We didn't have a care plan class either, but we are required to write several each semester for our clinicals. No one taught us how, but there is a standardized format we're supposed to use.

I used All in One Care Planning by Swearingen which worked good because it has care plans for all the specialties also

I have Nursing Diagnosis Manual by Doenges. It's not the greatest, but it gives enough info to get by until I can find a better alternative.

I used that last semester and it was not that great. My school took it off the book list, and switched to Ackley. It is ever so much informational! I had already bought it based on the recommendations of upper classmen, and my care plan grades immediately went to A's. It's worth the money!
