Hi I was a current male physical therapy student disappointed with my career choice with a burning passion to be more involved with medicine and taking care of patients. I realized that nursing was a better avenue for what I wanted to do in life (I didn't care to get patients up and walk them, I'd rather be more involved with medical treatment). So I applied to FAU's Accelerated BSN program hoping to be accepted for MAY 2011!!! I will be taking a few more pre-reqs at palm beach state college and hope to hear the good news in February.
Any one else apply??
I am determined to go back to school to obtain a nursing degree. I currently have my bachelors with a Public Health background and have been waiting for the perfect time to go back. I still have to take a few pre-reqs, along with the HESI. My GPA is 3.2 and I keep reading about everyone having very high GPAs. Has anyone been accepted into FAU Accelerated BSN with a 3.2?
I will also attempt the PBSC route as well, considering I'll be taking classes there. I don't have the option to relocate because I just recently moved to Florida and also have a family business. So it's either FAU for the BSN or PBSC for the RN. Does anyone have any advice on either? Do I stand a chance at FAU with the GPA I have? I'm going to begin studying for the HESI and hope to do well in all my other courses. Thank you!! Good luck to all of you in the program!!
Hi everyone! I've been reading this board since January 2011, but first time to write since I haven't heard anything of the 2012 accelerated class. I just finished applying, but still have 2 more pre-reqs to finish in the spring. I am finishing them at Broward College.
However, I feel like I have lost all hope. I spoke with someone at FAU saying that the average HESI was 97 and the average GPA was 3.9 - of the accepted 2011 class. I also know that FAU accepts on a completely numbers based system. I would love some feedback from people... since I can't seem to find another school that fits (needing a lot more prerequisites, only offers a 4 year BSN degree, too far away, etc.)
HESI - 87.5
B.S. GPA 3.3 (I finished in 3 years though instead of 4, which is why my grades are a bit lower - at one point I took 24 credits in one semester... but I also understand that they don't take this into consideration)
M.S. GPA 3.7 (This was completed in a special accelerated program (15 months instead of 2 years) at Northwestern University - one of the more prestigious business schools in the U.S.)
Prerequisites - 4.0!!!!!!
Do I have a chance? Can anyone else recommend a school in the area? And to follow it up, if I don't get accepeted - is there anything I could do to be accepted next year? It's not like I can raise my GPA after over 200 credits in my lifetime... take my last 60 credits and I'll bet it's a 3.9!
Thanks,
Amy
Hi Amy,
I applied to the FAU Accelerated BSN (for May 2012) about two months ago and took the HESI today. Have you heard anything else about the averages of FAU's admitted students? Or know of any other forums here that are discussion FAU's 2012 program?
Just wondering - good luck with your applications
Liz
Hi! I currently go to Fau but not for Nursing. Couple of my friends are in the program. 40 students were accepted for the ABSN program and the average gpa for student with degrees was around a 3.4.. Also 900 applies but that was conjoined with students applying for the traditional route. Good luck! FAU is actually my last choice bc they don't do a lot of hands on exposure. They do a lot of book side to prepare you for the nclex but personally I rather have the hands on exposure.
Good luck!

Hi Liz, I applied for the FAU's traditional BSN, have you heard anything yet?
No, nothing yet. I would think that they would notify us by the last week of February, otherwise they'd be cutting it very close. I was accepted to University of Miami and already paid an enrollment deposit there, since it was my first choice. Good luck for FAU!
Congrats to you!! best of luck in the program :)
